Alabama Track & Field Posts 12 Wins at Samford Invitational

Crimson Tide also registers 29 top-three finishes Friday
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Alabama track and field teams competed Friday at the Samford Invitational, winning 10 individual events and two relays, at the Birmingham CrossPlex. The Crimson Tide also posted 29 top-three finishes throughout the afternoon.
Field Events
- The day began with a victory in women's weight throw from junior Taylor Gorum (59-2.25/18.04m), while freshman Samantha Kunza (57-2.75 / 17.44M) placed third.
- In women's shot put, junior Cherisse Murray picked up her first win wearing Crimson and white with a best throw of 52-4 (15.95m), while fellow junior Nickolette Dunbar followed in second (51-11.75/15.84m)
- Senior Abigail Kwarteng cleared 5-8.5 (1.74m) to emerge victorious in the women's high jump and sophomore Carl Nesbitt (6-8 /2.03m) earned third on the men's side.
- Both UA programs finished second in pole vault with clearances from junior Taylor Pickett (12-5.5/3.80m) for the women and junior Ryan Lipe (15-11/4.85m) for the men.
- In their first meet of the season, junior Christian Edwards (51-7 /15.72m) and senior Michael Wiggins (46-8.75 /14.24m) went 1-2 in men's high jump.
- Alabama finished the day in field events with another 1-2 finish in men's shot put, with junior Isaac Odugbesan PR of 64-1 (19.53m) and sophomore Chago Basso throw of 60-4.5 (18.40m).

Running Events
- Both the men and the women opened the running portion of events with 1-2 finishes in the 60-meter dash. Junior Daija Lampkin (7.49) won the event and freshman Talaya Lewis (7.61) followed, while senior Alize Ford (6.80) secured the win for the men and junior Champion Allison (6.86) placed second.
- Senior Robert Dunning won his second-straight 60-meter hurdles race, crossing the finish line in 7.75.
- In the women's mile senior Esther Gitahi (4:50.56) clocked in four seconds ahead of graduate student Leah Hanle (4:54.29), for a Crimson Tide 1-2 finish.
- Sophomore Noel Rotich ran a 4:09.20 in the men's mile to break a meet record and place second and freshman Eliud Kipsang ran an impressive 4:04.40 unattached to grab first and also break the meet record.
- Freshman Kyle Goodman broke a meet record with a time of 48.10 in the men's 400m, while fellow freshman sprinter Matthew Weaver (49.15) placed third respectively.
- In his first race of the season, freshman Grady Shiflet (1:54.93) paced the men's 800-meter with a first place showing and junior Elliot Gindi (1:59.88) finished runner-up.
- The Tide claimed third in the 3000 meters, with freshman Megan Patton (10:08.02) for the women and junior Paul Selden (8:49.08) on the men's side.
- Alabama ended the day with strong performances in the 4x400-meter relay, going first and second for the women and the men.
