The Crimson Standard Rolls On
We are excited to announce that Phase I of The Crimson Standard is scheduled to move forward as planned. Last week, construction bids were awarded with approval from The University of Alabama Board of Trustees and University President Stuart Bell. Additionally, our athletics department has seen a record fundraising year with the launch of The Crimson Standard, and we are grateful for everyone who has supported this vision. Â
The changes called for in The Crimson Standard are necessary in order to stay competitive in our recruiting efforts, ensure our student-athletes have the best experience in the nation, and provide our fans with the best possible game-day experience at our sporting events. Phase I will see renovations to Rhoads Stadium, which are already underway, our golf facilities, Bryant-Denny Stadium and the Mal M. Moore Athletic Facility, including the creation of a new Sports Science Center.
If you are interested in making an impact on the future of Alabama Athletics by supporting The Crimson Standard philanthropically, or if you would like to learn about the new premium seating options available at Bryant-Denny Stadium, please contact ctf@ia.ua.edu or visit crimsontidefoundation.org.
Football Earns Most Wins in a Decade by FBS Program
Our win last weekend marked the 115th since the start of the 2010 season, making Alabama the FBS record holder for wins in a decade. We surpassed the former record of 114 victories, which was held by Marshall (1990s). In addition to holding the overall record, our teams have been the wins leader for two other decades in program history, including the 1960s (85 wins) and 1970s (103 wins). Predating the creation of the NCAA, Penn won 124 games and Harvard won 116 as major college football powers in the 1890s.

Softball SEC Championship etched at Sarah Patterson Champions Plaza
The Sarah Patterson Champions Plaza received a well-earned addition on Tuesday with the etching of 2019 on softball's conference championships list. We are so proud of our student-athletes and coaching staff and look forward to formally celebrating them at the Plaza in the near future.
SEC Basketball Schedules Finalized
Both our men's and women's basketball schedules are now final with the announcements of Southeastern Conference matchups. Our women's team begins league play on the road in Baton Rouge against the LSU Tigers on January 2, while the men open their SEC slate two days later in Gainesville versus the Florida Gators on January 4.
In Their Words
We recently launched our new feature series that documents first-person stories as told by our student-athletes. If you have not already, I encourage you to check out this week's piece done by men's golfer Davis Shore.
Team USA and the Crimson Tide
Track and field seniors Shelby McEwen and Robert Dunning were named to the United States National Team that took part in a historic head-to-head dual meet between the USA and Europe earlier this week at the Dinamo National Olympic Stadium in Minsk, Belarus. They were joined by Crimson Tide alums Quanesha Burks, Kord Ferguson and Daniel Haugh in competing with Team USA in Minsk. Shelby will be back overseas later in the semester when he competes in the World Championships. Sophomore swimmer Kensey McMahon was also recently named to Team USA after a big summer at the USA national championships. It's always special when members of the Crimson Tide go on to represent their country in international competition.
SEC Basketball Leadership Council Meeting Set for this Weekend
This weekend, Tyler Barnes and Jordan Lewis will represent the Crimson Tide at the 2019 Men's and Women's Basketball Leadership Council meetings in Birmingham. The two-day conference will cover a number of topics important to our student-athletes and provides them with a forum to voice their opinions about a variety of vital issues. We know that Tyler and Jordan will represent us well during this event and bring valuable information back to Tuscaloosa.
Habitat for Humanity Work Weekend
Our student-athletes were out in the community last weekend, with four teams sending 20 student-athletes to take part in another Crimson Tide Habitat for Humanity build. Members of the softball, rowing, women's basketball and women's tennis teams put hammer to nail and a lot of paint brushes and rollers into action. More of our teams will take part in another Habitat work weekend in early October. While we are extremely proud of what our student-athletes do in competition as well as in the classroom, we are equally proud of what they do to lend a helping hand to those around them.
Former Alabama Players Shine in NFL Week 1
Several of our former football players had notable performances in the first week of the 2019 NFL season. We were well represented on offense by a number of running backs and receivers, on defense by the likes of Dre Kirkpatrick, Marlon Humphrey and C.J. Mosley and on special teams, thanks to J.K. Scott's 47.6 yard-per-punt average. Look forward to seeing all of our guys who have moved on continue to have success in the professional ranks.
UA Honors Victims of 9/11 Attacks with Stair Climb at Coleman Coliseum
To honor the memories of the nearly 3,000 people who died as a result of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, first responders, military veterans and their family support groups participated in a stair climb at Coleman Coliseum on Wednesday. The climb, hosted by The University of Alabama Police Department and the Office of Veteran and Military Affairs, was 8 1/2 laps of stairs, which is equivalent to the 110 flights of stairs at the World Trade Center.
University Spotlight
Congratulations to aerospace engineering and mechanics Ph.D. candidate Chris Simpson, who unlocked a same-day job offer from Lockheed Martin Corp. by solving its Challenge Box's high value problem. Several other students who took part in the three-day event at the Ferguson Center were also able to unlock the Challenge Box and were both awarded Voyager Golden Record sets and a spot at the top of Lockheed Martin's recruiting list.
