Alabama Routs VK Select 104-64 in Game One of Canadian Tour

VANCOUVER, British Columbia – The Alabama women's basketball team started its 2019 Canadian Foreign Tour by cruising to a 104-64 victory over VK Select on Monday night at the Sentinel Secondary Gymnasium in Vancouver, Canada.
Highlights
- Alabama used a 14-3 run to end the first quarter and took control of the game after redshirt junior Jordan Lewis dropped in a buzzer-beating layup to put the Crimson Tide up 28-18 after the opening period.
- The Tide doubled its end of quarter lead with 3 minutes left before halftime when redshirt junior Shelby Gibson scored her eighth first-half point with a bucket in the paint to push the advantage to 50-30.
- UA held the 57-36 lead at the half after shooting 21-of-49 (42.8 percent) from the field, including knocking down five three-pointers in the first 20 minutes of action.
- VK Select cut the lead to 15 early on in the second half when junior Jasmine Walker drained three baskets from beyond the arc in a three-minute span to push the lead to 71-44.
- After holding the 85-48 lead heading into the fourth, the Crimson Tide never looked back, going up by as many as 41 points before the final buzzer sounded.
Player Spotlight
- Walker and Lewis each finished the game with 17 points. Lewis is back on the court after only playing seven games a season ago due to a wrist injury sustained in December of 2018.
- Gibson impressed in her first exhibition in an Alabama uniform with 12 points and 12 boards on the night. The Ole Miss transfer sat out last season due to NCAA rules.
Stats of the Game
- Alabama dominated the boards, grabbing 57 rebounds to VK Select's 32. The Tide found success on the offensive glass after out-rebounding VKS 29-6.
- The Crimson Tide had 11 players score in the game, including five in double figures.
