The Crimson Tide will depart on Sunday, Aug. 4 and start the trip back home on Sunday, Aug. 11
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women's basketball team is set to travel to Canada for its 2019 foreign tour when it departs for Vancouver on Sunday, August 4, while making additional stops in Victoria and Whistler, British Columbia, before starting the trip back home to Tuscaloosa on the night of Sunday, August 11. The team will play three games against international competition, while sightseeing throughout the trip.
"We're excited about this trip and having the opportunity to visit such a beautiful part of Canada," said Alabama head coach Kristy Curry. "It's an educational experience and 10 years down the road these types of trips are some of the things players talk about the most. These tours have a positive impact on the court and a lot of times, these players would not have the chance to this part of the country in their lifetime so for them to have this experience is really important."
The team will face strong competition on the court in the first three full days during the trip but will also sightsee in the beautiful cities of Vancouver, Victoria and Whistler, which includes bridge tours, mountain tours and ziplining, among other fun activities throughout the journey.
Following its arrival in Vancouver on Sunday night, Alabama will go on a tour of the Capilano Suspension Bridge on Monday morning before taking on VK Select at 9 p.m. CT in Sentinel Secondary Gymnasium. On Tuesday, Aug. 6 the Crimson Tide will face off against the University of British Columbia at 7 p.m. CT in War Memorial Gymnasium. The team will then ferry over to Victoria and play against the University of Victoria on Wednesday, Aug. 7 at 9 p.m. CT. Live stats will be provided for each game on RollTide.com.
After the game on Wednesday, the Tide will take the ferry back to Vancouver to explore Grouse Mountain. Following the tour, Alabama will bus over to Whistler and spend three nights in the city. In Whistler, the Tide will go on a zipline tour and have additional free time to explore everything the city has to offer. On the night of Sunday, Aug. 11 the squad will bus to the Vancouver airport and return home on Monday morning.
Throughout the trip, daily posts will be added to a travel blog on RollTide.com along with additional content on the Alabama women's basketball Twitter (@AlabamaWBB), Instagram (AlabamaWBB) and Facebook (Alabama Women's Basketball) accounts.
The Crimson Tide's previous foreign tour came back in August of 2015 when UA went overseas to tour Italy.
