
Crimson Tide Standouts Medal at USA Softball International Cup

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Team USA was back in action last week in Columbus, Ga., at the 2019 USA Softball International Cup, with four Alabama athletes earning gold and bronze medals with their respective teams.
The Women's National team won the gold medal after a thrilling comeback victory over second-ranked Japan on Sunday, with four-time Crimson Tide All-American Haylie McCleney driving in the go-ahead run to cap a stellar week at the plate. For the first time in program history, the U-19 squad took home the bronze medal with an 8-0 shutout over Scrapyard Fastpitch as rising sophomores Montana Fouts and Skylar Wallace and incoming freshman Lexi Kilfoyl all contributed to the team's effort over the past week.
Women's National Team (9-1)
Haylie McCleney (OF - Morris, Ala.)
- Led the starting lineup with a .481 batting average (13-for-27)
- 6 Runs (led team), 6 RBIs
- 9 singles, 2 doubles, 1 triple, 1 home run
- Four multi-hit performances
- Went 3-for-4 vs. Mexico (July 6), driving in three runs on a home run, double and single
- Drove in the go-ahead run on a sixth-inning sacrifice fly in the gold-medal game vs. Japan (July 7) in the 2-1 comeback victory
U-19 National Team (7-3)
Montana Fouts (RHP – Grayson, Ky.)
- 3 games started, 16.2 innings pitched, 1-0
- 10 hits, 1 earned run, 0.42 ERA
- 6 strikeouts, 1 walk
- Threw a complete-game shutout vs. Puerto Rico (July 6), allowing just three hits
Lexi Kilfoyl (RHP – Land O' Lakes, Fla.)
- 2 games played, 1 game started, 9.0 innings pitched, 1-0
- 6 hits, 1 earned run, 0.78 ERA
- 7 strikeouts, 0 walks
- Threw a complete-game victory against Scrapyard Fastpitch (July 4), fanning five with just one run allowed on five hits
Skylar Wallace (IF – Woodstock, Ga.)
- 10 games played, hit 7-for-26 (.269), 7 runs scored
- Earned a hit in seven of the 10 games played
- Hit a leadoff triple and later scored in the win vs. Peru (July 1), also driving in a run on a sac fly
Team USA will play exhibition games in Lafayette, La. (July 20-24) and Houston, Texas (July 25-30) before heading to Peru for the Pan American Games on Aug. 4-11 and Japan for the Japan Cup on Aug. 30-Sept. 1. The U-19 squad will play a pair of exhibition games July 21-22 in Spartanburg, S.C. before concluding its summer in Irvine, Calif., at the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) U-19 Women's Softball World Cup on Aug. 11-17.
