Alabama Athletics Aims to Raise Full Scholarship During Bama Blitz

Second annual University-wide giving event to run April 10-11
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama's second annual Bama Blitz, a University-wide giving event, is scheduled to begin Wednesday, April 10 at Noon CT and will run through 8:31 p.m. CT on Thursday, April 11. The one day, eight hour and 31 minutes is in honor of UA's founding year of 1831.
Bama Blitz leverages the power of social media and crowdfunding to encourage alumni, faculty, staff, students and friends to give back and pay it forward in support of their favorite cause, college or program. Alabama Athletics is aiming to raise $49,562 for the Crimson Tide Scholarship Fund (CTSF) – the annual scholarship fund for UA's student-athletes. This amount represents the cost of one full annual athletics scholarship.
Three donors have already committed to generous matching gifts that will double the impact of contributions to the Crimson Tide Scholarship Fund during Bama Blitz:
- Alabama Football legend Jerry Duncan '67 has committed to match, dollar-for-dollar, the first $5,000 contributed to the Crimson Tide Scholarship Fund.
- Nucor Steel Tuscaloosa, Inc. will match, dollar-for-dollar, the next $5,000 contributed to the Crimson Tide Scholarship Fund.
- The first 250 gifts to the Crimson Tide Scholarship Fund will unlock a $2,500 gift from a generous donor.
This year, the Department of Athletics will spend more than $19 million on student-athlete scholarships. The spendable income from the athletics scholarship endowment covers only a fraction of this expense. As annual scholarship costs continue to rise, the CTSF is critical to the long-term success and sustainability of Alabama Athletics. For every dollar donated to the CTSF, the Department of Athletics is able to direct revenue to other priority areas of need, maximizing our competitive advantage on and off the field.
Thanks to the generosity of 168 donors, Alabama Athletics raised $53,489.70 for the Crimson Tide Scholarship Fund during Bama Blitz 2018. For more information or to donate, visit bamablitz.ua.edu.
