Football Wins Sixth Straight Iron Bowl; SEC Championship Awaits
Our football team closed out the regular season with another classic Iron Bowl victory, defeating Auburn, 27-20. The victory not only clinched our team's spot in the Southeastern Conference Championship Game, but it was also the team's sixth straight win over Auburn (2020-25), the second-longest winning streak for the Crimson Tide in Iron Bowl history. Furthermore, head coach Kalen DeBoer improved to 2-0 against Auburn, becoming the first Alabama head coach to win his first two contests over AU since Gene Stallings (1990-91). Saturday's SEC title tilt versus Georgia is set for 3 p.m. CT inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
Men's Basketball Continues Winning Ways
Men's basketball did its part in this year's ACC/SEC Challenge with a 90-84 victory over Clemson on Wednesday night inside Coleman Coliseum. It was an exciting game as we led by as many as 19 points in the first half and showed resiliency by holding on for the win.Â
Last night's victory came on the heels of winning our final two games at the Players Eras Festival, which took place over Thanksgiving break in Las Vegas. Despite opening the tournament with a narrow loss to No. 11 Gonzaga, we delivered back-to-back impressive performances against UNLV, winning 115-76, and followed that with a 105-72 win over Maryland.Â
The team remains at home with its next game coming against UTSA on Sunday, Dec. 7, at 1 p.m. CT inside Coleman Coliseum.
Women's Basketball Keeps it Rolling
Our women's basketball team improved to 8-0 this season after taking down Kennesaw State, 79-65, Monday afternoon. It was the Tide's first game back at home after claiming the Pink Flamingo Championship in the Bahamas last week. Head coach Kristy Curry and her team showed out by capturing an 80-60 victory over Harvard in the opening contest and followed that with an impressive 63-58 victory over Minnesota to secure the title.Â
The team returns to action tonight, where we will also face Clemson in the ACC/SEC Challenge. Tip time is set for 6 p.m. CT inside Coleman Coliseum. The Tide will then host ULM on Sunday at 4 p.m. CT, which follows the men's contest earlier in the afternoon.
Gymnastics Gears up for Crimson & White Preview
Our gymnastics team will take the floor on Friday night for its annual Crimson & White Preview, which is free to all fans. The action begins at 6:30 pm CT inside Coleman Coliseum. Kids are encouraged to come in festive attire as Santa will be there for a pre-meet photo op! We hope to see you there with your Holiday Spirit!Â
Cross Country Shines at NCAA Nationals
Congratulations are in order for head coach Dan Waters and our men's and women's cross country teams as they had a huge day at the NCAA Cross Country Championships on Nov. 22.Â
On the women's side, Doris Lemngole led the team to its sixth consecutive top-20 team finish at the national meet, and 10th overall, spearheaded by defending her individual title with a meet and course record-breaking performance (18:25.4). As a result, she became the first back-to-back winner in the women's 6k race since 2010 and 2011. Earning All-America honors alongside Lemngole was the freshman duo of Caren Kiplagat (11th | 18:58.8) and Cynthia Jemutai (19th | 19:05.6).
The men's team also turned in one of its best performances in years, finishing sixth overall. The Tide men were led by All-America duo Dismus Lokira (11th | 28:48.5) and Dennis Kipruto (26th | 28:57.4) who captured top-30 individual finishes. At the end, Alabama's sixth-place finish was the highest for the program since its third-place team finish in 2009.
Doris Lemngole Selected as Honda Sports Award Finalist
For the third consecutive year, Doris Lemngole was selected as a finalist for the Honda Sport Award for Cross Country, announced by The Collegiate Women Sports Awards (CWSA). The announcement comes one day after Lemngole was named the National Athlete of the Year by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), becoming the first female student-athlete in 14 years to be selected for the national honor in back-to-back years. An awesome honor for a tremendous student-athlete and even better person!
