The Crimson Tide failed to make the top-eight at this year’s championships, will await NCAA Regionals announcement next week
ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – The No. 25 Alabama men's golf team completed play at the 2019 Southeastern Conference Men's Golf Championships on Friday afternoon, finishing the three-day, 54-hole event in 14th overall with a team total of 882 (292-278-312). The Crimson Tide will now turn its attention to NCAA Regionals, which will be announced live on the Golf Channel on May 1.
"The SEC is the best men's golf championship in the country in my opinion," Alabama head coach Jay Seawell said. "The way we played this week is truly deflating. Not only for our guys on the team, but for all of our fans and alumni. We know that's not who we are, but we just played poorly, and we have to own that – I have to own that – then we need to move on because we still have plenty of golf left to play. We have final exams next week, so we need to get away and focus on that. Then we really need to refocus to see if we can become the team that won at Shoal Creek and that we've seen at times throughout the spring. We had some bright spots this week, but we just did not handle our situation very well today."
Sophomore Wilson Furr led Alabama as he tied for 41st with a 54-hole total of 219 (69-72-78) on the par 70, 7,005-yard Sea Island Golf Club Seaside Course. Freshman Frankie Capan III was a stroke back of Furr, closing championship play with a 220 (77-67-76) to place 46th overall.
Junior Josh Sedeno (76-69-79) and freshman Prescott Butler (71-74-79) tied for 59th with both carding a 224, while sophomore Jake DeZoort rounded out the Crimson Tide golfers with a 232 (76-70-86).
Alabama will now turn its focus to NCAA Regionals, which will be announced live on the Golf Channel, May 1, at 8 p.m. CT (9 p.m. ET). The six regional sites (13 teams and 10 individuals at three regionals and 14 teams and five individuals at three regionals) will be held on May 13-15. A total of 30 teams and six individuals not associated with an advancing team will move on to the national championships, which will be played on May 24-29 at Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Ark.
