Crimson Tide tees off two-day, 54-hole Shoal Creek Invitational on Monday afternoon
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The No. 24 Alabama men's golf team will compete in its final regular season tournament on Monday and Tuesday at the 2019 Shoal Creek Invitational, which is co-hosted by Auburn and Kentucky.
The two-day, 54-hole event was forced to change its usual format due to heavy rains in the area that saturated the course. Sunday's practice round was washed out and the course won't be ready until Monday early afternoon. Therefore, the Crimson Tide won't tee off Monday's first round until 12:45 p.m. CT off Hole No. 10 and will be paired alongside No. 22 Tennessee and Samford.
The 15-team field will play as many holes as possible on Monday before darkness sets in. Play will then resume Tuesday morning and the field will continue the action until the tournament's conclusion.
This marks the Crimson Tide's first appearance in the event, which will be played on the par 72, 7,400-yard Shoal Creek Club course in Shoal Creek, Ala. There is free admission for the public.
Alabama's starting five will be led by sophomore Wilson Furr, who is the only golfer to have played in all nine tournaments on the year. The Jackson, Miss., native leads the Tide in stroke average (72.48), average vs. par (+1.08), top-20 finishes (5) and total rounds of par or lower (12) on the year. Most recently, Furr tied for sixth overall at the John Hayt Invitational, finishing with a 2-over par 218.
Junior Josh Sedeno is third on the team in both stroke average (72.92) and average vs. par (+1.42). Last month at the Linger Longer Invitational, Sedeno tied for fourth overall with a 7-under par 209.
Freshmen Prescott Butler and Frankie Capan III will also compete for the Tide, with sophomore Jake DeZoort rounding out the UA lineup.
