Crimson Tide will play 36 holes beginning on Tuesday morning
SHOAL CREEK, Ala. – The No. 24 Alabama men's golf team finished the opening round of play at the Shoal Creek Invitational with a 3-under par 285, the team's second-lowest round of the spring season. As a result, the Crimson Tide was in a tie for first overall when play was halted due to darkness just prior to the start of the second round.
Teams will resume play Tuesday morning, picking up where they were on the golf course when action was stopped. The 15-team field will then flow directly into the event's third and final round. The tournament's schedule was forced to change format due to heavy rains in the area that saturated the course. The Crimson Tide didn't tee off Monday's first round until 12:45 p.m. CT.
Two Alabama golfers are among the top 10 individuals, while four rank in the top 16 when play was suspended on Monday night. Leading the way was freshman Prescott Butler who is in a tie for sixth overall with a 2-under 70, his ninth round of par or lower this season. After going 1-over in his first nine holes, Butler responded with an eagle and two birdies with just one bogey over his final nine holes, resulting in a 3-under par back nine.
Junior Josh Sedeno also finished below par in round one, coming into the clubhouse with a 1-under 71. The Roseville, Calif., native ended his day in solid fashion by recording three birdies over the final eight holes to settle into eighth place overall on the leaderboard.
Sophomores Wilson Furr and Jake DeZoort are tied for 16th place, as both finished at even par 72 on the 7,400-yard Shoal Creek Country Club course. Freshman Frankie Capan III rounded out the Crimson Tide golfers in a tie for 23rd overall with a 1-over 73.
Round one concluded with No. 12 LSU (285) tied atop the leaderboard with Alabama, with both teams five strokes ahead of third-place Charlotte (290). North Florida, ranked 15th in the nation, was in fourth with a 291, while Jacksonville State (292) rounded out the top five.
