PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Sophomore Wilson Furr is in a tie for fourth overall to lead the No. 21 Alabama men's golf team after 36 holes of play at the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational. The Crimson Tide will enter Monday's final round in a tie for eighth overall with a team total of 589 (294-295).
Furr continued his solid start to the spring season with his play during Sunday's opening two rounds. The Jackson, Miss., native collected 10 birdies on the day, which ranks fourth among all individuals, on his way to back-to-back rounds of 2-under par 70 to result in a 4-under par 140. He will enter the third round two shots back of clubhouse co-leaders Matthias Schmid of Louisville and Bryson Nimmer of Clemson, both of whom lead the field at 6-under 138.
Junior Josh Sedeno also had a solid performance on Sunday, ending the day in a tie for 15th with a 1-over par 145 (73-72). After beginning his opening round with a triple bogey on the first hole, Sedeno rallied to shoot 3-under par the rest of the way, collecting eight birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey over his remaining 35 holes.
Freshmen Frankie Capan III (77-75) and Prescott Butler (74-78) are tied for 59th overall with each carding a 152 on the par 72, 6,966-yard Sawgrass Country Club course. Sophomore Jake DeZoort rounds out the Crimson Tide golfers in 78th with a 159 (79-80).
Two teams are tied for first entering Sunday's final round of play as No. 22 North Carolina and No. 29 Louisville both carded an even par 576.
