The Crimson Tide will look to bounce back with a doubleheader on Sunday against No. 18 Tennessee and Jackson State
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – No. 39 Alabama dropped its match, 4-0, to No. 1 Georgia on Friday night at the Alabama Tennis Stadium. With the loss the Crimson Tide moves to 14-8 overall and 3-5 in league play, while the Bulldogs remain undefeated at 16-0 in 2019 and 8-0 in conference action.
"I thought we played a good match as the match went on," head coach Jenny Mainz said. "We needed a better start. We talked about that in the huddle after the doubles point and said we can't give them a huge lead and then find our stride and compete better. As soon as we settled down and started competing better, we became more discipline and hit better balls and things started going in the right direction for us, but I felt like we ran out of time."
Georgia controlled doubles play by earning wins on courts one and two to go up 1-0.
The Bulldogs doubled their lead after picking up a singles win on court four. Later on, UGA used back-to-back wins on courts two and six to close out the match at 4-0.
On the positive side, No. 69 Andie Daniell won a hard-fought first set against No. 1 Katarina Jokic, 7-6(5), before the match went unfinished in the second set tied at 1-1.
Next up, the Crimson Tide will finish up its homestand on Sunday, March 31 with a doubleheader against No. 18 Tennessee at 11 a.m. CT followed by a link up with Jackson State at 5 p.m. CT. The matches will be streamed live via RollTide.com.
