MALIBU, Calif. – The No. 23-ranked Alabama men's tennis team toppled over Pepperdine, 4-0, on Sunday at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center. The Crimson Tide improves to 8-1 after its two-match swing in California.
After a lengthy rain delay the evening started with singles play. The Crimson Tide swept the first four matches to secure the shutout.
"A super finish for the guys tonight," said head coach George Husack. "We faced some different conditions today including the long rain delay, chilly weather, playing under the lights and starting with singles. The focus remained throughout, regardless of whether we won or lost points. The score was taken out of the contest and we were dialed in on the plan. A solid road trip for us and we will be happy to be back home soon."
Junior Alexey Nesterov started things off by dominating Scotland Garapedian, 6-2, 6-2. Moments later, junior Zhe Zhou cruised past Tim Zeitvogel, 6-2, 6-3, while No. 40 senior Mazen Osama took down Adrian Oetzbach, 7-5, 6-1. Lastly, sophomore Riccardo Roberto took care of Pawel Jankowiak, 6-1, 7-6(4), on court six to solidify the win.
The Tide will return to action at the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic in Montgomery, Ala., on Feb. 22-23.
