Alabama Hits the Road for In-State Showdown with South Alabama

The Crimson Tide will play the Jaguars on Thursday at 7 p.m. CT in Mobile
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama will hit the road for an in-state matchup with South Alabama at 7 p.m. CT on Thursday inside the Mitchell Center in Mobile. The Crimson Tide enters the game with a 2-1 mark, while the Jaguars are 1-3 early in their 2019-20 season.
This is the 27th meeting between the two programs, with Alabama leading the all-time series 21-5, however, USA has won the last three games against UA. The last time the teams met was a year ago on Dec. 5, 2018 with the Jags defeating the Tide 72-67. Alabama has lost the last two meetings against South Alabama in Mobile, with the last meeting coming on Dec. 30, 2005.

• The Crimson Tide has won its last two games, including its 111-56 rout of Mercer on Sunday, while the Jags went 1-2 in the Preseason WNIT over the last week.
• Through three games, Mobile native Cierra Johnson leads the team with 12.7 points, six rebounds and three steals per contest off the bench. Sophomore newcomer Brittany Davis is averaging 11 points, while junior Jasmine Walker is putting up 10 points and six rebounds per contest.
• Head Coach Kristy Curry picked up her 100th win at Alabama on Sunday against Mercer. Curry is in her seventh season with the Tide and is the program's No. 2 winningest coach in history.
• After getting off to slow starts in the first quarters of its first three games of the season, the Tide has found success in the second quarter. Alabama is outscoring its opponents 85-27 in the second frame. Last game, UA put up its most point in its history in a quarter since the NCAA switched from halves to quarters in the 2015-16 season. The Tide poured in 41 points while holding the Bears to just nine points.
• Alabama's depth has been a key factor in the first three games of the season, with the bench outscoring UA's starters, 127-112.
• Alabama tied the school record for most three-point field goals made with 14 vs. Mercer on Nov. 17, knocking down 14-of-27 shots from beyond the arc. This is only the third time in UA history that 14 three-pointers were made in a game, with the previous two coming in 1992 and then again in 1993. UA is averaging 8.7 three-point makes per game which is 30th nationally and third-best in the SEC.
About South Alabama
• USA is 1-3 this season after suffering losses to Rutgers, UAB and Miami (OH), while its lone win came against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Nov. 14.
• The Jags are led by Antoinette Lewis who was picked as the favorite for Sun Belt Player of the Year. Lewis is leading the team in points (17.8), rebounds (14.0), blocks (2.5) and steals (2.0).
• Head Coach Terry Fowler is in his seventh season at the helm and 20th year as a head coach. Fowler has an 86-106 record at South Alabama.
