ABOUT ALABAMA
Alabama returns seven letterwinners and welcomes newcomer sophomore Moka Ito to the roster. Senior Andie Daniell comes back to the Capstone as the Tide's top player, ranking at No. 41 in the latest ITA rankings, after finishing the fall season with four wins over nationally-ranked opponents. Meanwhile, Ito will be making her debut in Crimson after transferring from Western Kentucky.
Juniors Luca Fabian and Alba Cortina Pou will have a big role for the Tide in the spring, after the two combined for a 10-5 record in singles play along with a 5-2 doubles mark in the fall season. UA will also rely on the play of junior Jacqueline Pelletier who compiled a 7-4 record in the fall.
Two more juniors that could play a big part in the season are Kimberley Gintrand and Ann Selim who finished the 2018 fall campaign by combining to win their last five singles matches.
In addition to enjoying a strong fall on the court, the Crimson Tide posted an outstanding resume in the classroom with a 3.92 team grade point average.
COACHES CORNER
"We're eager to get our season started with UAB and Belmont on Sunday," said head coach Jenny Mainz. "This team has been working vigorously to prepare for the spring season. We had a great fall and built a lot of momentum and confidence. We gained a lot of invaluable experience last season that I'm sure will pay dividends this year. This is a fun team to watch. They truly care about each other and they're going to play this season for each other."
Mainz enters her 22nd season at the Capstone and looks to build off last year's season after returning seven out of eight from the 2017-18 roster.
SCOUTING UAB & BELMONT
Belmont fell 6-1 to Samford in their first road match of the season and they will face UAB on Saturday before facing Alabama. Sunday's encounter will mark the second time the two squads will meet, the most recent meeting ended in the Tide finishing 7-0 on Jan. 28, 2018, in Tuscaloosa.
The Tide owns a 22-1 all-time record against the UAB Blazers, including a 4-0 triumph in the last meeting between the two squads on Jan. 28, 2018, in Tuscaloosa.
UAB will look to improve upon a 12-12 record from last season and enters the 2019 campaign returning every player from last year.
