The Crimson Tide will face off against ACC foe North Carolina Friday, March 2 at 7:30 p.m. in Coleman Coliseum
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – For the first time since the first meet of the season, the No. 6 Alabama gymnastics team steps out of conference competition this Friday when it takes on ACC power North Carolina in Coleman Coliseum starting at 7:30 p.m.
"It's only our second meet outside of SEC competition this year and we're taking on a North Carolina team that is getting better as the season goes on and has won their conference many, many times," UA head coach Dana Duckworth said. "I feel like UNC, like most every team that we face, will bring their best meet to Coleman Coliseum. We're looking forward to being back at home in front of our fans."
The Crimson Tide is led by seniors Nickie Guerrero, who earned SEC Specialist of the Week honors for her performance against Auburn last Friday, and Kiana Winston, who won the all-around against the Tigers. Guerrero is ranked sixth on the vault, seventh on the balance beam and 19th on the floor exercise, while Winston is ninth on the uneven bars and 14th on the balance beam nationally.
Alabama also saw sophomore Wynter Childers return to the lineup last weekend for the first time since the Arkansas meet, scoring a career-best 9.875 on the uneven bars and a season-best 9.875 on the balance beam against the Tigers.
North Carolina is led by Khazia Hislop, who is ranked in the top-15 nationally on the floor exercise after scoring five marks of 9.9 or better, including a season-best 9.95. She has led a Tar Heel floor lineup that is among the nation's best this season.
Alabama comes into Friday after earning a season-best 197.300 on the road last weekend at Auburn while North Carolina posted a season-best 196.050 in a quad meet at North Carolina State on February 17 that also included Michigan and Brown.
Tickets are available through the Alabama Ticket Office (205.348.2262), located in the lobby of Coleman Coliseum, and online at RollTide.com
