SEC Champions!
What a finish in Atlanta last week! Congratulations to our student-athletes, Coach Saban and staff on an incredible comeback victory to win Alabama's 27th Southeastern Conference title, helping to secure the top spot in the College Football Playoff. We happen to be the only program in the country to be represented in all five CFPs, which is quite a remarkable feat. Look forward to cheering on the Tide with many of you at the end of the month in Miami!
Holiday Season Underway
Our Life Skills and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee got the holiday season rolling recently, with our 27th-annual Project Angel Tree event, purchasing, wrapping and presenting gifts to children in need at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The evening included games, cookie decorating, a stadium tour and a visit by Santa. The gymnastics team kept the spirit of the season going with its annual Stallings RISE Center holiday play date in their practice facility. Like Project Angel Tree, there were fun and games along with a visit by Mr. and Mrs. Claus. We are very proud of the way our student-athletes work to bring a smile the face of some of our youngest fans.
SEC Career Tour
As I mentioned in the last Crimson Column, two of our student-athletes had the opportunity to take part in the third-annual SEC Career Tour. Alize Ford from track and field and Chloe Maize from soccer traveled to Atlanta for the two-day event. Both came back to campus having had a great experience and having gained invaluable insight into the next chapter of their lives. This great program is just another example of the SEC fulfilling the credo, "It just means more."
Annual Letter Jacket Ceremony
It was a special night in Coleman Coliseum when more than 70 of our student-athletes received their Crimson Tide letter jackets in our annual ceremony. A-Club president and football alum Kermit Kendrick shared his memories of receiving his jacket back in the day and what it means to him still to be identified as a member of the Crimson Tide in that way and the legacy that our latest letter winners now share in. Congrats to our latest members of this amazing club.
Supporting our Student-Athletes
As we continue to celebrate the success of Alabama football's 27th SEC Championship, I want to take a moment to thank each of our donors whose support makes this success possible. Championships begin with scholarships, and we are grateful to every person who has contributed to the Crimson Tide Foundation.
Gifts to the Crimson Tide Scholarship Fund (CTSF) support scholarships for Alabama student-athletes, allowing them to benefit from a world-class education that, for many, would not be possible without that support. In recognition of the Tide's most recent SEC title, we invite you to consider a gift to the CTSF to ensure the future success, competitiveness, and long-term sustainability of our programs. You can take pride in knowing that your contribution is helping more than 600 Crimson Tide student-athletes compete at the highest level, while earning a degree from the Capstone.
University Spotlight
In honor of 125 years of women at the Capstone, several students, faculty and staff participated in 125 minutes of service on November 28. There were various activities set up for volunteers to get involved in from packing meals for Secret Meals for Hungry Children to making fleece blankets for Turning Point and Children's of Alabama and crafting holiday cards for Miracle Kids at Children's of Alabama. Great job by all!
UA Contributes Largest Giving Total in United Way Campaign History
On November 28, we also celebrated the end of the 2018 UA United Way campaign inside Bryant-Denny Stadium. Athletics was proud to serve as this year's host division on campus, and I want to commend all of those involved for a record-breaking year. As a university community, we not only came together to achieve the campaign goal of $385,000, we surpassed it by nearly $85,000. United Way does so much for West Alabama, and it's wonderful that our university is able to support it like we do.
#RollTideFriday
We're going global again in with this week's #RollTideFriday photos. First, we've got Ken McCullough wearing his Alabama polo in Budapest, Hungary and secondly, we have the entire Norwood family decked out in Crimson Tide gear in Treasure Cay.
