TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Two close losses on the road in conference play last weekend caused Alabama softball to drop in the week-10 national polls, coming in at No. 12 in both the USA Today/NFCA poll and the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll.
Last week, the Crimson Tide won a midweek contest against UAB, 8-0, before dropping two close contests on the road against Tennessee in Knoxville. Alabama is now 36-9 overall and 10-7 in conference play. With two SEC series remaining this season, the Crimson Tide is currently fifth in the league. Alabama is also ranked No. 14 in the latest NCAA RPI.
After moving from No. 12 to No. 9 last week, the Tide slid back down to No. 12 in this week's NFCA poll. Alabama swapped positions with Washington, who took two out of three games from Oregon last weekend to move to No. 9 this week. The Tide is preparing for two games this weekend against the Huskies in Tuscaloosa. Utah also makes its first top-10 appearance of the season after taking two games from Pac 12-leader Arizona. Florida is No. 1 in both polls after a midweek win over No. 2/3 Florida State and two wins at No. 20/21 Kentucky.
Alabama is one of 10 SEC schools ranked in this week's top 25. All 13 SEC teams are either ranked or receiving votes in at least one poll this week. Ranked SEC teams include Florida (1/1), Texas A&M (4/4), Auburn (7/7), Tennessee (11/9), Alabama (12/12), LSU (16/16), Ole Miss (18/20), Kentucky (20/21), Georgia (22/23) and Arkansas (24/RV). Missouri, South Carolina and Mississippi State are all receiving votes outside the top 25.
Alabama will host Southern Miss at Rhoads Stadium on Wednesday, April 19 at 6 p.m. CT before playing two out-of-conference games against No. 9/10 Washington in Tuscaloosa on Friday, April 21 at 6 p.m. CT and Saturday, April 22 at 4:30 p.m. CT.
