Crimson Tide travels to Fort Worth, Texas, to take on TCU on Saturday, Feb. 18, at 1 p.m.
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women's tennis team travels to Fort Worth, Texas, on Saturday, Feb. 18, to square off against the TCU Horned Frogs at 1 p.m. CT in the Crimson Tide's lone match of the weekend.
"I think that we have got some good matches under our belt in preparation for TCU," said head coach Jenny Mainz. "We had a tough ITA Kick-Off Weekend at Ohio State, but we beat a really good Harvard team before we lost to Ohio State, who I think can make a run for it this year. I thought we played them well, but it was a good experience for us on the road that I think will help us as we travel to TCU this weekend."
Last time out, the Tide (4-2) went 1-1 at the 2017 ITA Kick-Off Weekend event in Columbus, Ohio. Alabama opened the tournament with a 4-0 shutout over Harvard, before dropping a 4-0 decision to then ranked No. 7 Ohio State.
Alabama has an overall 19-8 singles record in dual match play, including four players that remain undefeated. Sophomore Andie Daniell leads the team with the most singles wins at 4-0, and she is 1-0 and 3-0 from the No. 1 and No. 2 singles positions, respectively. Senior Erin Routliffe is currently 3-0 and all three of her wins came from the No. 1 position, while senior Joanna Savva sits at 2-0 with wins from the No. 5 and No. 6 spots. Freshman Kimberley Gintrand is the final Alabama member with an undefeated record since beginning dual match play, and she is 1-0 with her lone victory coming from the No. 6 singles position.
The Tide got off to a strong start in doubles play to begin the dual match season, as it currently has an impressive 12-2 record. Alabama has an undefeated 4-0 record from the No. 1 doubles position and it is 4-1 from the No. 2 and No. 3 spots.
TCU enters Saturday's contest with an overall 5-1 record, and last weekend it defeated Washington, 4-0, and Oregon in a 4-1 decision. The Horned Frogs have one singles player and a doubles team that is currently nationally ranked by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Olaya Garrido-Rivas and Donika Bashota teamed up to earn a No. 13 ranking, while Seda Arantekin is nationally-ranked No. 90 in singles play.
When TCU and Alabama meet on Saturday it will mark the seventh time in program history the two have faced each other with the Tide holding the overall series advantage at 6-0. The last time the two teams squared off was on Jan. 31, 2015, when Alabama cruised to a 6-1 win over the Horned Frogs.
