Alabama Women’s Tennis Falls to TCU on Saturday Afternoon

Tide back in action on Friday, Feb. 24, when it travels to compete in Blue-Gray National Tennis Classic
FORT WORTH, Texas – The Alabama women's tennis team lost a 6-1 decision to the TCU Horned Frogs on Saturday afternoon at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. With the loss, the Crimson Tide falls to an overall 4-3 record, while TCU improves to 6-1.
In doubles play, Alabama lost on courts two and three to give TCU a 1-0 match advantage going into singles action. Seda Aranteki and Olaya Garrido-Rivas teamed up to defeated senior Danielle Spielmann and sophomore Andie Daniell (No. 2) in a 6-4 decision, before Aleksandra Zenovka and Alexis Pereira topped senior Joanna Savva and freshman Juliana Valero (No. 3), 6-3, to clinch the doubles point.
In singles play, TCU's No. 90-ranked singles player Arantekin defeated senior Erin Routliffe (No. 1) in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1, to take a 2-0 match lead. The Horned Frogs' Marie Norris notched freshman Maddie Pothoff (No. 5) in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, to extend its match lead to 3-0. Daniell (No. 2) responded with the Tide's lone singles win, as she topped Donika Bashota straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, to cut TCU's lead to 3-1. Zenkova won in straight sets over Spielmann (No. 3), 6-3, 7-5, before Garrido-Rivas outlasted Savva (No. 4) 4-6, 6-4, 10-5, to stretch TCU's lead to 5-1. Alabama fell short in the final singles match, as Valero (No. 6) lost a three-set thriller to Caroline Wegner, 2-6, 6-2, 6-2, resulting in the final match score.
The Tide will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 24, when it travels to Montgomery, Ala., to participate in the Blue-Gray National Tennis Classic.
