Alabama Women’s Tennis Falls to Ohio State, 4-0, in ITA Kick-Off Weekend Event

Tide back in action on Saturday, Feb. 18, when it hosts TCU in a match that set to start at 1 p.m. CT
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Alabama women's tennis team lost a 4-0 decision to the seventh-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes in the championship match of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend tournament on the campus of Ohio State at the Varsity Tennis Center. The Crimson Tide falls to an overall 4-2 record, while Ohio State remains undefeated at 4-0.
Alabama dropped the first doubles contest of the match on court three, as Olivia Sneed and Ferny Angeles Paz overcame junior Smith Hinton and freshman Juliana Valero in a 6-1 decision. On court two, Miho Kowase and Francesca Di Lorenzo ousted Andie Daniell and Danielle Spielmann, 6-1, to put Ohio State ahead 1-0 heading into singles play.
Ohio State maintained that same rhythm in singles play, as Sandy Niehaus defeated Hinton (No. 4) in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1, to lengthen the match lead to 2-0. The Buckeyes' 59th-ranked singles player Kowase topped freshman Maddie Pothoff (No. 5), 6-1, 6-0, to take a 3-0 match advantage. Ohio State went on to clinch the 4-0 match victory on court six, as Angeles Paz notched Valero in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1.
The Tide will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 18, when it hosts TCU in a match that is set to start at 1 p.m. CT.
