STARKVILLE, Miss. – The Alabama soccer team lost to the Mississippi State Bulldogs, 1-0, Friday night at the Mississippi State Soccer Field in Starkville, Miss. The Crimson Tide falls to an overall 7-4-1 record and a 2-2-1 mark in Southeastern Conference play, while the Bulldogs improve to 6-6 and 1-4 in league play.
The first half was a standoff as both teams went into intermission scoreless. Alabama led in shots (5-1), shots on goal (3-1) and corner kicks (3-0). Junior goalkeeper Kat Stratton picked up one save between the posts in the half. Sophomore Abbie Boswell led the offensive attack in the first half, as she recorded two shots including one that was on goal.
Just 36 seconds into the second half, Mississippi State's Johanna Hamblett converted from 15 yards out to give the Bulldogs the one goal lead. Alabama was able to create a few opportunities on the offensive end, but it wasn't enough as Hamblett's goal resulted in the final score.
