Alabama Soccer Falls to Ole Miss, 2-1, Thursday Night

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama soccer team lost to the Ole Miss Rebels, 2-1, Thursday night at the Alabama Soccer Complex in Tuscaloosa, Ala. The Crimson Tide falls to an overall 7-5-1 record and a 2-3-1 mark in Southeastern Conference play, while Ole Miss improves to 8-6 and 3-3 in league play.
The Rebels' Alley Houghton converted from five yards out in the 23rd minute of the first half to take an early 1-0 lead. Alabama was unable to respond before halftime and Ole Miss took a 1-0 lead going into intermission. The Tide tallied four shots including two on frame in the half. Junior goalkeeper Kat Stratton picked up one save.
The second half was a possession battle until the hour mark, when junior Maddy Anzelc headed a ball in the back of the net off a corner kick that came from junior Hailey Brohaugh to equalize the score at 1-1. The goal marks Anzelc's first of the season.
Ole Miss responded at the 70:49 minute mark, when the Rebels' Maddi Falter score from about five yards out to give Ole Miss a late 2-1 lead. Alabama made late offensive attacks, but it wasn't enough as Ole Miss's second goal resulted in the final score. The Tide outshot the Rebels 12-3 in the second half.
Alabama recorded 16 shots, six shots on goal and four corner kick in the 90 minute affair. Stratton had one save, and her record between the posts falls to 7-5-1 and 2-3-1 in league play.
The Tide returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 9, when it travels to Columbia, Mo., to square off against Missouri at 1 p.m. CT.
