Alabama Soccer Falls to Missouri, 2-0, Sunday Afternoon

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Alabama soccer team lost to the Missouri Tigers, 2-0, Sunday afternoon at the Walton Stadium in Columbia, Mo. The Crimson Tide falls to an overall 7-6-1 record and a 2-4-1 mark in Southeastern Conference play, while Missouri improves to 9-4-1 and 4-2-1 in league play.
In the first half, Missouri controlled the offensive attack outshooting the Crimson Tide 11-4. The Tigers' Sarah Luebbert converted from five yards out at the 27:37 minute mark to take a 1-0 lead. Alabama was unable to respond after the Tigers goal, and Missouri took a 1-0 lead going into intermission. Junior goalkeeper Kat Stratton was active between the posts as she collected five saves in the half. Junior Chatham DeProspo tallied two shots, both on goal, while juniors Lacey Clarida and Hailey Brohaugh recorded one shot. Alabama registered four shots, two shots on goal and four corner kicks in the half.
The second half was a possession battle until the 83rd minute, when Missouri's Jessica Johnson found the back of the net from about seven yards out. In the final seven minutes of regulation the Tide made some solid offensive attacks but it wasn't able to convert. The Tiger's first half goal ended up being the game-winning goal, and its second half goal resulted in the final score. Alabama registered six shots, two shots on goal one corner kick in the second half. Stratton came up with two more saves in the half.
In the 90 minute affair, Alabama recorded 10 shots, four shots on goal and five corner kicks. Stratton collected seven saves, and her record between the posts falls to 7-6-1 and 2-4-1 in conference play.
The Tide will be back in action on Thursday, Oct. 13, when it takes on Georgia at the Alabama Soccer Complex in a match that is set to broadcast on the SEC Network at 7 p.m. CT. The match is against the Bulldogs is marketed as the Power of Pink match, and Alabama will also recognize its three seniors on the team for their contributions throughout their career. The first 100 fans at the game will get a Power of Pink shirt and shaker.
