TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – After the first week of preseason training, Alabama will travel down the road to take on in-state rival Auburn in an exhibition match Thursday at 7 p.m. CT at the Auburn Soccer Complex. The contest marks the only time this year the Crimson Tide and the Tigers will face each other.
"I am pleased with our start to the preseason training," said head coach Wes Hart. "I am excited to see how we match up against Auburn. Tonight's match will be a good measuring stick for us, as Auburn is a quality opponent who has the potential to expose some of our weaknesses."
The Crimson Tide trails Auburn in the overall series 7-14-2, however tonight's game will not be recorded in the books. The Crimson Tide registered an overall 5-12-2 record last year, and it will look to improve on that mark this year under second year head coach Wes Hart. Alabama has a surplus of experience returning, as 16 letterwinners come back to the roster for the 2016 campaign. Nine of those 16 letterwinners returning are starters, and the Crimson Tide welcomes nine newcomers to this year's squad.
The Crimson Tide has 10 upperclassmen, four seniors and six juniors, that are on the team this year. There are 15 spots held by underclassmen on the roster, and seven of those are sophomores and eight of them are freshmen.
After the Alabama's friendly match with Auburn, the Crimson Tide will close out the preseason with its final exhibition game of the season against Troy on Sunday, Aug. 14, at 11 a.m. CT in Orange Beach, Ala.
