Alabama Men’s Basketball Hosts Stetson Thursday Night in Non-Conference Finale

Crimson Tide and Hatters tip off at 7 p.m. CT on SECN+
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama returns to the hardwood after an eight-day break between games when it hosts the Stetson Hatters on Thursday night at 7 p.m. CT in Coleman Coliseum. Thursday's game will mark the Crimson Tide's final non-conference contest of the 2016-17 season.
Alabama is coming off a 67-52 victory over Arkansas State in Huntsville, Ala., at the Rocket City Classic. The Tide held the Red Wolves, who entered the contest with a 9-2 record and an NCAA RPI of 27, to single-game season lows in field goal percentage (.339), thee-point field goal percentage (.250) and scoring.
Alabama and Stetson will meet for just the second time in series history. The only other meeting between the two programs came on Jan. 8, 1966 when the Tide captured a 75-50 victory.
Thursday's game will be televised on SEC Network+. Fans can listen to the radio broadcast on the Crimson Tide Sports Network as Chris Stewart (play-by-play) and Bryan Passink (analyst) will call all the action both on radio and for the television broadcast. WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Alabama will play a true home game for just the second time in the month of December. The only other game played in Coleman Coliseum this month came on Dec. 15 (vs. Charleston Southern).
- The Alabama bench has been outscored by its counterparts just twice in its 11 games this year, which came in the season opener vs. Coastal Carolina (22-17) and the its most recent contest vs. Arkansas State (29-28). For the year, the Crimson Tide reserves is outscoring the opposition's bench by an average of 13.0 points a game (31.2-18.2).
- The Crimson Tide is led on the year by redshirt freshman Dazon Ingram, who tops the team in scoring assists (3.7 apg), steals (1.2 spg) and three-point field goal percentage (.400), while ranking second in scoring (9.1 ppg) and minutes (25.8 mpg). Freshman Braxton Key tops the team in scoring (9.6 ppg) and minutes (26.8 mpg), while ranking second in rebounds (4.6 rpg) and assists (1.9).
- Alabama is a perfect 6-0 when holding teams to fewer than 62 points, but falls to 0-5 when allowing the opposition to score more than 62.
- The Tide boasts 11 players averaging at least 10 minutes per game, with eight of those players averaging between 5.8 points and 9.6 points per contest.
- The Crimson Tide comes into Thursday's game holding opponents to 62.0 points per game. That number ranks second in the SEC and 25th nationally (as of Dec. 27).
- Alabama will next be in action when it starts Southeastern Conference play on Tuesday, Jan. 3, at Mississippi State. That contest will tip off at 7:30 p.m. CT and will be televised on SEC Network.
SCOUTING STETSON
• Stetson University is located in DeLand, Fla., with a second campus in Gulfport, Fla. and two satellite centers. Founded in 1883 by Henry A. DeLand as the DeLand Academy and later renamed Stetson University to honor its benefactor, John B. Stetson, the university has a storied history of leadership, values and significance.
• Stetson was picked to finish fifth in the Atlantic Sun Preseason Coaches Poll. The Hatters had two players chosen to the preseason all-conference team in sophomore forward Derick Newton and graduate senior forward Brian Pegg.
• Last season, the Hatters reached the A-Sun tournament finals for the first time since 1994. With a championship on the line, Williams guided a senior-less roster to within a basket of winning the title as the Hatters lost 80-78 in overtime at Florida Gulf Coast.
• Stetson is coming off an 81-72 defeat at Campbell on Dec. 22. Stetson trailed by 14 points at halftime but the Hatters slowly chipped away and took its only lead of the second half when Angel Rivera's layup with 2:23 left made it 72-71. But the Camels ended the game on a 10-0 run, as Stetson missed its final four shots from the floor, to result in the final score.
• Head Coach Corey Williams is in his fourth season as head coach of the Hatters program. Williams has a career record of 34-76 (.309) during his time at Stetson.
• STETSON PROBABLE STARTERS (based off previous game): Guards: Angel Rivera (9.9 ppg, 5.9 apg, 33.4 mpg), Divine Myles (16.2 ppg, 4.8 rpg, .471 3FG%), Luke Doyle (11.4 ppg, 3.5 rpg). Forwards: Derick Newton (16.9 ppg, 6.1 rpg, .434 3FG%), Larry Dennis (3.9 ppg, 2.4 rpg).
SCOUTING ALABAMA

Most recently, Alabama is coming off an impressive 67-52 win over Arkansas State, who entered the game with a 9-2 overall record and an NCAA RPI of No. 27 in the country.
• Alabama does not have a player averaging double figures through its 11 games on the season, but boast 11 players average double-digit minutes and eight guys who average between 5.8 and 9.6 points per game.
• The Tide's top two scorers are both freshmen, led by forward Braxton Key at 9.6 points per game. Guard Dazon Ingram adds 9.1 points per contest as the duo are the only two players to average more than nine points a game for the Tide.
• Ingram also leads the team in assists (3.7 apg), steals (1.2 spg) and three-point field goal percentage (.400). Meanwhile, Key tops the team in minutes (26.4 mpg) and is second on the squad in rebounding (4.6 rpg) and assists (1.9 apg).
• Sophomore center Donta Hall tops the team in rebounding (6.0 rpg) and field goal percentage (.641), while ranking second in blocks (1.7 bpg). Graduate senior Corban Collins, who missed the Tide's last game with a groin injury, is second on the team in three-point shooting (.395) and ranks third in scoring at 8.4 ppg.
• As a team, Alabama is outscoring the competition by 5.3 points per game (67.3-62.0) and outrebounding opponents by 2.9 rebounds per game (36.5-33.6). The Tide is shooting .429 from the field and .316 from beyond the arc as a team.
NEWCOMERS MAKING AN IMPACT
• Including Dazon Ingram who is a redshirt freshman, the Crimson Tide welcomed seven newcomers who are currently playing in Avery Johnson's 10-man rotation to begin the season
• Four of the team's top five scorers five of the top eight were either redshirts or were not on the team a year ago.
• The seven newcomers are combining to average 45.2 of Alabama's 67.3 points per game – approximately 67 percent of the team's total scoring output.
• The group is also dishing out 79 percent of the Tide's assists (103 of the team's 131 total assists) and pulling down 55 percent of the team's boards (19.9 of UA's 36.5 total rebounding average).
HOME SWEET HOME
• Dating back to the 2009-10 season, Alabama owns a record of 100-27 (.787) on the Coleman Coliseum floor, including a 4-2 mark this season. The Tide was 10-5 during the 2015-16 season, followed by 14-5 record during the 2014-15 campaign and a 13-4 record in 2013-14.
• Since the start of the 2010-11 campaign, the Tide has won 89 of the last 110 games played under the arched roof of Coleman Coliseum (89-21; .809).
• Overall, Alabama owns a record of 558-130 (.811) in the facility's 48th season of use.
• Since 2009, Alabama owns a home record of 43-17 (.717) against SEC competition. Since 2011, the Tide boasts a 38-13 (.745) mark at home against the conference.
