Alabama Men’s Basketball Returns Home to Take On Charleston Southern Tuesday Night

Crimson Tide and Buccaneers tip off at 6 p.m. CT on SEC Network
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama will return to Coleman Coliseum for the only time in its current five-game swing when it welcomes Charleston Southern on Tuesday night at 6 p.m. CT.
Alabama and Charleston Southern will square off for the third time in series history, with all three games taking place in the last five years. The Crimson Tide leads the series 2-0 with a pair of double-digit wins over the Buccaneers, including a 59-46 victory on Nov. 23, 2012 and a 59-45 win on Dec. 14, 2013.
Alabama is led on the year by redshirt freshman Dazon Ingram, who tops the team in scoring (10.2 ppg), assists (4.2), steals (1.4) and minutes (27.6) per game, while ranking second with 4.0 rpg. Graduate transfer Corban Collins and freshman Braxton Key each average double figures at 10.0 ppg, while sophomore Donta Hall is the Tide's leading rebounder at 5.6 rpg.
Tuesday's game will be televised on SEC Network with Mike Morgan (play-by-play) and Chris Spatola (analyst) on the call. Fans can listen to the radio broadcast on the Crimson Tide Sports Network as Chris Stewart (play-by-play) and Bryan Passink (analyst) will call all the action. WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Over the Tide's last two games, Nick King is averaging 8.0 points and 4.5 rebounds, while shooting 54.5 percent from the field. Donta Hall is averaging 6.0 points and 9.0 rebounds over the same span.
- Following Tuesday's game, the Tide will begin a two-game road trip with games at Texas (Dec. 2) and at Oregon (Dec. 11). Prior to the Charleston Southern game, Alabama played a pair of games in Las Vegas on Nov. 21 and 23.
- The Alabama bench scored 59 points, equaling Ball State's team total in a 77-59 victory over the Cardinals on Nov. 18. The 59 points scored by the Tide reserves were the most this century and the most since accounting for 59 points in a 95-48 win over Florida A&M on Dec. 17,1994. For the year, the Tide's reserves have been a strength the the team, outscoring the opposition by an average of 16.4 points per game (30.4-14.0).
- Alabama ranks fourth in the SEC in turnover margin at +4.0 entering this week's action. Fewer turnovers has equated into a big advantage in points off turnovers. The Tide is forcing the opposition into an average of 16.2 turnovers per game, compared to just 12.2 turnovers a contest by Alabama. As a result, the Tide is scoring 18.6 points a game in points off turnovers, compared to 10.8 average points by the opposition (+7.8).
- The Tide will next travel Austin, Texas, where it will square off against the Texas Longhorns on Friday, Dec. 2. The contest will tip off at 8:30 p.m. CT and will be televised on ESPNU.
SCOUTING CHARLESTON SOUTHERN
• Charleston Southern welcomes back five returners blending with seven newcomers (eight, counting redshirt freshman Antwan Maxwell). CSU, who is led by All-Big South selection Armel Potter, was picked to finish ninth in the Big South.
• Potter was picked to the Big South Preseason All-Conference Second-Team in October. Potter led all Big South freshmen in assists and assist-to-turnover ratio last year, while ranking second in scoring. He led CSU in nearly every major statistical category outside of rebounding. Potter posted five 20-point games and 21 double figure efforts. He is the first Buc to receive preseason recognition since Saah Nimley and Arlon Harper in 2014-15.
• CSU freshman Christian Keeling tallied 16 points at Florida State and added 19 more against Columbia International. He currently leads the team in scoring (17.5 ppg) and second on the team in rebounding (6.5) and field goal percentage (.583 percent). Keeling was named 2015-16 Georgia Basketball Player of the Year by the Augusta Chronicle.
• Potter is second on the team with 13.5 ppg, while Javis Howard is collecting 11.0 ppg and a team-leading 7.8 rebounds a contest.
• Head coach Barclay Radebaugh has presided over one of the most successful stretches in Charleston Southern history during his 11 years as head coach. Radebaugh is the winningest coach in school history, the 6th winningest coach in Big South Conference history, and is one of only eight coaches to win multiple Big South Coach of the Year awards. He has directed CSU to Big South regular season championships and NIT berths in 2012-13 and 2014-15.
SCOUTING ALABAMA
• Alabama comes into Tuesday's game against Charleston Southern looking for its first winning streak of the season. The Tide is coming off a 62-57 victory over Saint Louis last Wednesday night in the consolation game of the Men Who Speak Up Las Vegas Main Event.
• The Tide boasts three players who average in double figures. Redshirt freshman Dazon Ingram leads the Tide with 10.2 points per game, while graduate senior Corban Collins and true freshman Braxton Key each add 10.0 points a contest.
• Sophomore center Donta Hall tops the team with 5.6 rebounds per game, while Ingram is second at 4.0 rebounds per game, while also leading the team with 4.2 assists per contest. Senior center Jimmie Taylor averages a team-best 1.8 blocks per game, while also contributing 4.6 points and 3.0 rebounds per contest.
• As a team, Alabama is outscoring the competiton by 5.4 points per game (68.2-62.8) and outrebounding opponents by 1.2 rebounds per game (35.4-34.2). The Tide is shooting .417 from the field and .360 from beyond the arc as a team.
• Alabama ranks third in the SEC in scoring defense and three-pointers made per game (8.2), is fourth in turnover margin (+4.0) and is fifth in three-point field goal percentage.
LAST TIME OUT
• Freshman Braxton Key made his first career start and responded with a season-high 16 points to lift the Alabama men's basketball team to a 62-57 come-from-behind victory over the Saint Louis Billikens LAST Wednesday night in the consolation game of the Las Vegas Main Event at the MGM Grand.
• Alabama trailed by nine points, 54-45, with 5:17 left to go, forcing a timeout by head coach Avery Johnson. The Tide would come out of the time out by knocking down back-to-back threes by Key and Nick King which cut the lead to 54-51. After a made free throw and a layup by Saint Louis to extend its lead to 57-51 with 2:51 left, Key answered with another three as the Tide ended on an 11-0 spurt over the two-and-a-half minutes.
ALABAMA VS. SAINT LOUIS: QUICK HITS
• Braxton Key made his first career start and responded with a game-high 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the floor and 3-of-4 from beyond the arc. He scored seven of his points over the final five-plus minutes of the game during a decisive 17-3 game-ending run.
• Alabama's bench outscored Saint Louis' reserves, 23-15. The Tide bench has now outscored its counterparts in four of its first five games this season.
• The Tide forced 19 turnovers by the Billikens en route to the five-point win. Alabama, which had 14 turnovers on its own, took advantage of the Saint Louis miscues by outscoring the Billikens 26-6 in points-off-turnovers.
• Alabama trailed 54-45 with 5:17 remaining before outscoring Saint Louis 17-3 the remainder of the game en route to the victory. Over the final five-plus minutes, the Tide's defense held the Billikens to just 1-of-5 shooting from the floor and forced six turnovers.
NEWCOMERS MAKING AN IMPACT
• Including Dazon Ingram who is a redshirt freshman, the Crimson Tide welcomed seven newcomers who are currently playing in Avery Johnson's 11-man rotation to begin the season.
• The seven players are combining to average 46.0 of Alabama's 68.2 points per game average through its five contests, which equates to approximately 67 percent of the Tide's scoring output on the year.
• The group is also dishing out 82 percent of the Tide's assists (49 of the team's 60 total assists) and pulling down 50 percent of the team's boards (17.6 of UA's 35.4 total rebounding average).
LEADING THE SEC
• Alabama ranked in a tie for tops in the SEC when it came to Graduation Success Rate (GSR) among men's basketball schools in the league.
• Alabama, along with Georgia, were the only men's basketball program in the SEC that boasted a perfect 100 percent in the 2015-16 GSR results.
• The GSR factors students who entered school from 2006-09 and graduated within six years of their start date.
