TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The women's basketball team will play its lone exhibition contest this weekend when it hosts Auburn University in Montgomery on Sunday, November 6. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m. CT in Foster Auditorium, and admission is free.
"Everyone is really excited for this game as we get an opportunity to play against someone other than ourselves," said Alabama head coach Wendell Hudson. "We are ready for the lights, the uniforms and the atmosphere that a real game situation brings. This will be a great opportunity for us to see where our team is and tweak some things before our first official game next weekend."
Sunday's game marks the third meeting between the two schools; however it is the first in the series since December 15, 1990. The Crimson Tide has won both previous meetings by an average of 22 points.
Alabama is coming off its first postseason appearance in eight years as it advanced to the WNIT round of 16 in 2011. The Tide returns senior Ericka Russell, who has been one of the Tide's best scorers and defenders since arriving at the Capstone in 2008. There will also be a number of new faces on the Alabama sideline as it welcomes six newcomers, four of which are eligible to play this season. Among the fresh faces are junior college standouts Kyra Crosby, Jessica Merritt and Meghan Perkins as well as true freshman Aneesah Daniels. For the fourth year, Alabama will be under the direction of Wendell Hudson. He is assisted by associate head coach Ty Evans, as well as Leah Drury and Robert Mosley.
Sunday's game will be the third of the season for Auburn-Montgomery as the Warhawks are scheduled to take on Concordia College Selma on Friday as well as Webber International on Saturday at the Faulkner Classic in Montgomery. This season's team returns seven letterwinners and welcomes eight newcomers. The 2010-11 squad finished with a 14-16 overall record and will be led by fourth-season head coach Dan Davis.
Season tickets are currently on sale starting at $40 for the general public and $35 for University of Alabama faculty and staff. Single-game tickets will go on sale November 7, at the cost of $8 for adults and $5 for youth 18 and under. Tickets can be purchased online by clicking here or by calling the Alabama Ticket Office at 1-877-TIDETIX (843-3849).
