
Softball Blanks DePaul in Five Innings, 8-0

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The No. 6 ranked Alabama softball team erupted for eight runs to down visiting DePaul in five innings Saturday to start day two of the Easton Challenge. Sophomores Cassie Reilly-Boccia and Jennifer Fenton both went deep to lead Alabama to the 8-0 win. After the victory the Crimson Tide improves to 13-4 overall and DePaul drops to 7-5 on the season.
Reilly-Boccia set the tone in the first inning by hitting a home run to dead centerfield. The Tide then erupted for five runs in the third inning to take a commanding 6-0 lead after three innings.
Fenton provided the punch for Alabama with a three-run shot over the centerfield wall. The home run brought home sophomores Kendall Dawson and Amanda Locke. Alabama started the scoring in the frame when Dawson got hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score pinch-runner Lisa Elizondo. Junior Whitney Larsen then scored on a wild pitch.
Alabama put the game away with two more runs in the fifth. After a Locke double, Dawson followed with a double of her own to score Locke. Fenton then ended the game with a single up the middle that scored pinch-runner Courtney Conley.
Freshman Lauren Sewell went the distance for the Tide, tossing five innings and allowing two hits while striking out eight to improve to 4-0 on the season.
Fenton and Dawson paced Alabama at the plate with two hits apiece. Fenton scored a run and drove in four while Dawson scored twice and tallied two RBIs.
