
Softball Enters the SEC Tournament as the No. 2 Seed

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Southeastern Conference announced its 2009 Softball Tournament field with the No. 3 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide slated as the No. 2 seed. The tournament will be hosted by the University of Tennessee Lady Vols at Sherri Parker Lee Softball Stadium, May 7-9 in Knoxville, Tenn. The championship game will be broadcast live, May 9, on FS South and its regional networks at 1:30 p.m. (ET). It can also be heard on XM radio, channel 200.
"We are excited to be playing in our 13th straight SEC tournament," head coach Patrick Murphy said. "Postseason play is where champions come out and we hope to be playing on the final day once again."
Western Division champions Alabama will make its 13th consecutive SEC tournament appearance, as the No. 2 seed while the Florida Gators enter the tournament as the No. 1 seed. The Crimson Tide have claimed three tournament titles with its last in 2005.
Two teams that were not in the tournament last year will make appearances. The Arkansas Razorbacks are making their first appearance since 2006, their seventh overall. The Kentucky Wildcats are making their third overall appearance, first since 2001.
On Thursday, May 7, the No. 3 seed Georgia Bulldogs will open up the tournament against No. 6 seed Kentucky at 11:00 a.m. (ET), followed by Alabama and No. 7 seed Arkansas at 1:30 p.m. (ET). The evening session will feature Florida vs. No. 8 seed Auburn, which clinched a berth Saturday night with a win over LSU, at 5:00 p.m. (ET) and the host school, No. 5 seed Tennessee, will take on No.4 seed LSU in the nightcap at 7:30 p.m. (ET).
Tickets for the single-elimination tournament can be purchased through the Tennessee Lady Vols Athletic Ticket Office.
