Crimson Tide fans are encouraged to take advantage of the Athletic Ticket Office's holiday ticket pricing with all tickets for Wednesday, and the next two home games, priced at $5 each.
Samford is 3-6 this season after defeating Spring Hill College, 58-48, on Saturday afternoon with the other two wins coming against Elon and McNeese State. However, the Bulldogs' Princeton-style offense, combined with solid three-point shooting, presents a challenge for opposing defenses. Wednesday's meeting is the 32nd in the series with Alabama holding a 28-3 advantage.
"They're a very good and I have a lot of respect for the system and program they run," said Alabama head coach Anthony Grant. "Offensively, they're a lot different than what we've faced lately. It's a Princeton offense that utilizes their offense to control the way they game is played. We're going to have to do a great job defensively and on the other end of the floor do a good job trying to set the tempo."
The Crimson Tide is 6-3 this season after surrendering a 16-point lead to No. 5 Purdue on Saturday in a 73-65 loss that snapped a three-game win streak for the Tide. Alabama's solid early season record has come despite playing the second toughest non-conference schedule in the Southeastern Conference. Through last weekend's games, Alabama's opponents to date boast a 46-26 (.613) record this season with the team's five major-conference opponents (Providence, Baylor, Florida State, Michigan, Purdue) holding a combined 35-11 (.761) this season.
The Bulldogs are winless on the road this season and are facing a scoring margin deficit of 3.4 points per game after opening the season with four straight losses. Josh Davis and Trey Montgomery lead Samford with 11.9 and 11.0 points per game, respectively, while Jeffrey Merritt leads the team on the glass with 5.0 rebounds per game. Samford is shooting .442 as a team with six players shooting 40 percent or better with Merritt's .605 percentage leading the way.
For the Tide, Mikhail Torrance leads the squad in scoring this season with 15.4 points per game on 52.2 percent shooting with 5.3 assists per game. JaMychal Green trails closely with 14.6 points and a team-high 7.0 rebounds per game and has two double-doubles already this season and nine in his career.
Following Wednesday's game, Alabama will hit the road, but stay within the state border to face No. 17/22 Kansas State in Mobile, Ala. as part of the Coors Classic.
