FAYETTEVILLE, AR-The University of Alabama soccer team battled tough, wet conditions, but was unable to scratch the scoreboard as they dropped a 2-0 heartbreaker on the road to the Arkansas Lady Razorbacks (6-11-0, 2-4-0).
Both teams played to a scoreless tie in the first half with Arkansas getting the majority of the scoring opportunities, out shooting the Tide 7-0 and forcing Alabama goalie Courtney Rogers to come up with four saves.
Arkansas took a 1-0 lead nearly half way through the first half on an own-goal. The Lady Razorbacks took a corner kick and in the ensuing rush in front of the Tide goal the ball knocked off a Tide defender past Bama goalie Courtney Rogers for the lone goal of the first half.
The Lady Razorbacks added an insurance goal with just under two minutes left in the match when Melissa Dziubinski took a ball Julie Williford and beat Rogers for the final 2-0 score.
"Today we were just out played by a skilled team," said Alabama Head Coach Don Staley. "Our two styles just didn't match up. I was disappointed today in the way we played but not the effort we gave."
After a 2-1 win at LSU on Friday night, the Tide was going for its first SEC weekend sweep since it swept LSU and Arkansas on the same road swing back in the 1998 season. The loss also marked the first time since a 0-0 tie against LSU in the 2001 season that Alabama has been shutout.
The Tide will take the week off from competition before getting back to action on Friday when the team hosts the Florida Gators in a match to be televised on FOX Sports Network at 6:30 p.m.
