Josh Pierre begins his fourth season as director of basketball operations at the University of Alabama as Nate Oats hired Pierre in November of 2022. During Pierre's three seasons in Tuscaloosa, the program has made its first-ever trip to the NCAA Final Four in addition to winning the 2023 SEC Regular Season Championship and Tournament Championship.
"Josh comes from a basketball family who has been in the business his whole life," head coach Nate Oats said. "Josh is a hard worker with high character and had a lot of great references with people that I trust. Josh has been an amazing addition to our program and continues to help build a winning culture here at Alabama."
Alabama - Director of Basketball Operations (2022-Present)
- During Alabama's three seasons at UA, the Tide has won 84 games highlighted but the prgoram's first-ever NCAA Final Four appearance during the 2023-24 season
- Alabama has appeared in three straight Sweet 16s since Pierre arrived to The Capstone
- In his first season in Tuscaloosa, the Tide captured the 2023 SEC Regular Season Championship and the SEC Tournament crown while becoming the first team in program history to earn the No.1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament
- The Tide have had two players selected in the 2024 NBA Draft - Brandon Miller (2nd Pick, Charlotte Hornets) and Noah Clowney (21st, Brooklyn Nets)
- In addition to Miller and Clowney, the Tide have had a pair of players during Pierre's time participate in NBA Summer League in Aaron Estrada and Charles Bediako
- During his time at UA, the program has had a pair of All-America selections in Mark Sears (2024) and Brandon Miller (2023)
- During the 2024-25 season, the Tide set the program record for most points scored in a single season, scoring 3,355 points
Elon - Director of Scouting & Recruiting (2019-22)
- Assisted in running Elon's defense to Top 50 in the Nation and 1st in the CAA under Head Coach Mike Schrage (& Billy Taylor)
- First Conference Tournament Championship Game Appearance in school history
Mississippi State - Video Coordinator (2018-19)
- Aided in the Bulldogs return from a decade long drought from the NCAA Tournament (No. 5 Seed) under Head Coach Ben Howland
- Three players went on to play in the NBA - Reggie Perry (57th Pick), Robert Woodward (40th Pick) & Quinndary Weatherspoon (Free Agent, 2022 NBA Champion - Golden State Warriors)

- 2013 Sun Belt Conference Western Division Champions under Head Coach John Brady
- Back-to-Back 19-win seasons for the first time in 24 years (2013-2014)
- Played in 44 games and led the nation in minutes per game among walk-ons (13.2) during conference play

- Voted “Best Teammate” by his teammates and coaching staff & Team Captain each year as a Student-Athlete

- Pi Kapp Alpha Fraternity Spiritual Chair & recipient of the Dr. Warren & Lu L. Nedrow Scholarship for Distinguished Alumni
- Father, Butch Pierre, possesses more than three decades of college basketball coaching experience with stops at LSU (2006 Final Four) Oklahoma State, NC State, UNC Charlotte, Memphis, UTEP, Wichita State and Louisiana Lafayette. He started at point guard at Mississippi State (81-84) and finished 3rd all time in assist. His mother, Clemmie Pierre, is a graduate from the University of Kentucky
- Twin Brother, Joe Pierre, is currently an assistant coach at Furman (2025-Present) after spending seven seasons at Liberty University (2018-2025) under Head Coach Ritchie McKay. The Flames were the 8th winningest team in Division I in the last seven years and have been to four NCAA Tournaments and one NIT.
- Sister, Dr. Langley Pierre McClay, is the Director of Pre-College Programs, Teaching and Learning at LSU
