J Batt joined The University of Alabama Department of Athletics in 2017 and serves as its Executive Deputy Director of Athletics, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Revenue Officer.
In this role, Batt oversees many aspects of internal operations as well as all revenue generating areas of the athletics department and provides day to day leadership of the department as a member of the athletics executive team. He directly oversees the Crimson Tide Foundation, ticket office, TIDE PRIDE, event management, facilities and grounds, capital project administration, contract management, human resources and flight operations. Additionally, he is the sport administrator for men's basketball.
Previously, Batt was Deputy Director of Athletics, Development and Revenue Generation where he was responsible for guiding the revenue generating aspects of University of Alabama Athletics Department - including charitable giving, ticketing, TIDE PRIDE and other revenue sources. Managing the 20-person Crimson Tide Foundation team that handles all development operations including capital, endowment, excellence, annual and booster club giving as well as letterwinner activities, Batt oversaw the successful development, implementation and launch of The Crimson Standard, Alabama Athletics' 10-year, $600 million capital initiative. This initiative has raised over $510 million thus far and provided needed renovations of Bryant-Denny Stadium, Rhodes Softball Stadium and the Mal Moore Athletics Facility.
Batt is a member of the Athletics Executive Staff, which guides and directs all aspects of the department. Additionally, he served on the University Presidential Advisory Committee for COVID-19 and led external planning for COVID-19 return to competition efforts. He also participates on the University Advancement Leadership Team, Presidential Prospect Management Team as well as the Faculty Athletics Committee.
Prior to arriving at the Capstone, Batt was Senior Associate Athletics Director at East Carolina University and Executive Director of the Pirate Club, a position he held from 2013-17. As a member of the ECU Athletics Executive Leadership Team, Batt oversaw a development operation that increased total fundraising in 2016 by over 60 percent over ECU's previous best year. Batt and his team also led an annual scholarship fund that grew 27 percent over a three-year period. Under his direction, East Carolina Athletics launched satellite development offices in target markets and increased Student Pirate Club memberships to an all-time high. Additionally, Batt designed and initiated capital campaigns to renovate Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium, the Ward Sports Medicine Building and Scales Field House.
Before his stop at ECU, Batt served as an Associate AD and Executive Director of the Terrapin Club for the University of Maryland from 2011-13. He joined the Terrapin Club staff in 2009 and served as executive director beginning in September 2011. Before his tenure at Maryland, Batt worked in athletics fundraising at James Madison, William and Mary, and his alma mater, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
A member of the Tar Heels' 2001 NCAA champion men's soccer team, Batt graduated from UNC with both a bachelor's degree in journalism and mass communications as well as a master's degree in sports administration. He is married to the former Leah Barefoot, and the couple has two sons, Fitz and Graham.
