Todd Watson is in his first year as a special assistant to head coach Nick Saban.
At Alabama, Watson will assist the head coach with a myriad of responsibilities, including high school relations, offensive and special teams game preparations and breakdowns while also assisting with camps and clinics.
Watson joins the Alabama staff after three seasons at the University of Tennessee where he spent two of those years as the Director of Football Operations and his final season as the Director of Football Programming.
Prior to his time in Knoxville, Watson served as the Director of Operations and High School Relations at Troy from 2015-17. The Trojans combined to go 20-5 over his final two seasons and shared the Sun Belt Championship with Appalachian State in 2017, earning a berth in the New Orleans Bowl. The Trojans finished 10-3 in 2016, including a victory over Ohio University in the Dollar General Bowl.
Watson was one of the most successful high school coaches in Alabama before joining the staff at Troy. He posted a record of 80-36 in 10 seasons as the head coach at Foley High School, where he coached former Alabama standout and Atlanta Falcons' All-Pro Julio Jones along with future NFL players such as Robert Lester and D.J. Fluker.
A native of Mobile, Ala., Watson spent five seasons (2000-04) as the defensive coordinator at Hoover High School where he helped lead the Buccaneers to a 70-4 record and four Alabama 6A state titles. He compiled a 24-2 record in two seasons (1998-99) as the defensive coordinator at Bryant High School after five years as an assistant coach at Alba High School from 1993-97.
Watson's teams at Foley made the playoffs each of the 10 years he was at the helm of the program and reached the third round of the playoffs twice. He guided his team to a 16-14 victory over rival Daphne in 2007 in a game that was televised live by ESPN.
A 1993 graduate of the University of Mobile with a bachelor's degree in health & physical education, Watson is married to the former Christie Mallory of Mobile. The couple has two daughters, Micah and LeighAshton, a Troy University graduate who is married to Seth Nuss.
