Former Alabama players made an impact in Week 3 of the NFL season
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The National Football League concluded Week 3 of the regular season Monday evening. Below is a look at how former Alabama players performed on the gridiron last week.
Two Tide running backs lead the league in total touchdowns through three weeks, as Jahmyr Gibbs and Derrick Henry improved their season totals to six scores during Week 3. Gibbs logged 164 scrimmage yards and three total touchdowns in the Lions' 31-24 win over the Jets. The Detroit back totaled 99 yards and two touchdowns on the ground while adding 65 yards and crossing the goal line once as a receiver. In the first NFL game played in Rio de Janeiro, Henry reached the end zone twice as part of his 89 yards rushing in the Baltimore Ravens' win over Dallas, 34-31.
John Metchie III hauled in his first touchdown reception of the season on a ball thrown by his Alabama teammate Bryce Young in the Panthers' 21-18 loss at Cleveland. Metchie III finished with two receptions for 19 yards on the afternoon.
Placekicker Will Reichard connected on all three of his field goals, including a pair from 50-plus, in the Vikings' 23-16 win over Tampa Bay. Reichard scored on a season-long 56-yarder, while adding successful tries from 54 yards and 43 yards. He also connected on two PATs to finish the day with nearly half of Minnesota's points.
On the other side of the ball, defensive tackle A'Shawn Robinson snagged the second interception of his 11-year career to go with to three tackles for the Buccaneers.
At linebacker, Anfernee Jennings forced his first fumble of the season while adding three tackles for the New Orleans Saints in a loss against the Las Vegas Raiders. Will Anderson Jr. filled the stat sheet for the Houston Texans, logging a season-high 2.5 sacks and three tackles for loss as part of his seven total stops. Anderson Jr. added a forced fumble, one fumble recovery and three quarterback pressures to his stat line.
In the secondary, Cincinnati safety Jordan Battle registered four tackles and an interception in Bengals' loss at Pittsburgh. Fellow safety Xavier McKinney recorded one interception, a pass breakup and five tackles in the Green Bay Packers' matchup with the Atlanta Falcons on Thursday night. Cornerback Pat Surtain II logged a season-high eight tackles in the Denver Broncos' come-from-behind win against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday Night Football.
