Woodson Selected to Butkus Award Watch List

The senior transfer is one of 51 linebackers across college football named to the preseason list
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama football's Caleb Woodson was named to the 2026 Dick Butkus Award Watch List, the Butkus Foundation announced Wednesday.
Woodson is part of a list of 51 student-athletes named to the watch list for the Butkus. Four Crimson Tide linebackers have won the Butkus Award previously with Reuben Foaster taking home the hardware most recently in 2016. Joining Foster on the list of Alabama backers to capture the honor are C.J. Mosley (2013), Rolando McClain (2009) and Derrick Thomas (1988).

- Joined the Crimson Tide in January after beginning his career at Virginia Tech
- Set to take over at inside linebacker for Alabama in 2026
- Contributed in 35 games across three seasons in Blacksburg
- Recorded 152 career tackles, including 11.5 for loss and two sacks, to go with three pass breakups and one interception for the Hokies
Founded in 1985, the Butkus Award honors the nation's top linebackers at the high school, collegiate and professional levels while preserving the legacy of College Football and NFL Hall of Famer Dick Butkus. Semifinalists for the 2026 Butkus Award will be announced on Oct. 28 followed by a finalist list that will be revealed on Nov. 20. This year's winner of the Butkus will then be named during the week of Dec. 7.
