Nadia Ramadan scored a goal in the 77th minute to pace the Tide in the road match
LEXINGTON, Ky. –– The No. 25 Alabama soccer team (8-3-1, 2-2-0 SEC) dropped a 2-1 road game to Kentucky (9-3-0, 3-1-0 SEC) on Friday.
A penalty kick would prove to be the difference maker for the Wildcats as Kentucky secured its 2-1 advantage in the 77th minute. Less than a minute prior, Alabama had found its tying goal off a back-heel pass from Gianna Paul to Nadia Ramadan. Kentucky's first goal came off a corner kick in the ninth minute of the game.
How It Happened
- Kentucky held the lead for most of the game after scoring off a corner kick in the ninth minute of action
- Grace Hoytink would send a ball from the corner flag towards the top of the six-yard box, finding the head of Katherine Truitt for the 1-0 lead
- Alabama had a strong start to the second half, but would not find its tying goal until the 77th minute
- Kiley Kukan won the ball in the box and centered it to Gianna Paul, who sent it toward Ramadan with the back of her heel
- Ramadan, unmarked at the top of the box, fired the shot with her first touch into the upper right corner
- Just seconds later, however, a foul in the box set Kentucky's Gabrielle Poretto up for a penalty kick to take the lead
- Alabama and Kentucky finished the match tied 11-11 in shots
- Paul's assist was her fifth of the season as the UA senior now holds 82 career points, just shy of UA's all-time points record of 85 by Libby Probst
- Ramadan is tied for second on the team this season in goals with five, while Kukan notched her fourth assist
Next
- Alabama and Oklahoma will go head-to-head for the first time as Southeastern Conference opponents, and just the third time overall, on Thursday, Oct. 2 in a 7 p.m. CT match
- The two teams last met during the 2000 season
