Alabama Splits Doubleheader to Close out Home Slate

The Crimson Tide opened the day falling to No. 2 Texas A&M, before sweeping Alcorn State
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women's tennis team (10-12, 3-10 SEC) split its doubleheader, falling to No. 2 Texas A&M (21-2, 12-1 SEC), 4-0, before defeating Alcorn State (6-16) 4-0, on Sunday. The Crimson Tide closed out its home campaign earning eight victories, which included a six-match winning streak.
Match Notes
- Texas A&M secured the doubles point after winning on courts one and two, respectfully
- Alabama's double duo Margaux Maquet and Priya Nelson were fighting against TAMU's Nicole Khirin and Lexington Reed as the score stood at 5-5 once the Aggies clinched the doubles point on court two
- Texas A&M would secure the team win with singles victories on courts three, one and two, respectfully, as Alabama saw three courts (four, five and six) remain unfinished at the time the match was decided
- Of those three courts, the Crimson Tide had the advantage on courts four and five as both were in the second set
- In the second match of the day, UA would flip the page to clinch its match against Alcorn State, 4-0
- All four of the Tide's points came in singles play and were straight-set victories
- Sara Nayar collected Alabama's first point on court four after downing Ozi-Oiza Josephine Yakubu, 6-0, 6-0
- On court three, Maria Martinez-Vaquero followed suit by defeating Oihane Villanueva Lopez also in two sets, 6-0, 6-0
- Priya Nelson beat Nikita Liyanage by a score of 6-0, 6-0 on court five, before Petra Sedlackova downed Doaa Mohamed on court one, 6-2, 6-1, to clinch the match for the Tide
