Alabama Captures Fourth-Place Finish, Sets School Record in 800 Freestyle Relay

The Crimson Tide relay topped the program standard by 18 hundredths of a second to earn its first First Team All-America honor in the event since 1990
FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – With a record-shattering performance, the Alabama 800 freestyle relay team captured a fourth-place finish on the opening night of the NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships.
The fourth-place finish by Charlie Hawke, Kaique Alves, Tommy Hagar and Toni Dragoja marked the Tide's best-performance in the event since finishing eighth in 1990.
In addition to notching the Tide's first First Team All-America honor in 35 years, the quartet bettered its UA record by 18 hundredths of a second with a 6:06.59. Dragoja's 200 freestyle performance was the second-fastest by an anchor swimmer at the meet as he turned in a 1:31.06 to move UA from sixth to fourth place.
After the first night of competition, the Crimson Tide is in ninth place with 30 points.
