Hawke’s Bronze Medal Highlights Alabama’s Fourth Day at SEC Championships

Charlie Hawke paced a trio of Crimson Tide swimmers in the 200 freestyle as the senior earned a bronze medal in the event
ATHENS, Ga. – Charlie Hawke highlighted a trio of Alabama swimmers featured in the top heat of the men's 200 freestyle as the Crimson Tide concluded the fourth day of competition at the Southeastern Conference Swimming and Diving Championships.
Hawke captured a time of 1:30.62 to earn a bronze medal in the 200 freestyle. Kaique Alves (1:32.07) and Toni Dragoja (1:32.88) also earned a spot in the top heat, finishing seventh and eighth.
The men's team finished day four in sixth place with a score of 329, while the women's team tallied 289 points for eighth place.
Meet Highlights
- In addition to landing three swimmers in the top heat of the 200 freestyle, 10 additional athletes made the finals
- Emily Jones dropped over three tenths of a second for a 51.62 in the finals of the 100 butterfly, finishing 10th overall at the meet and moving to second all-time on UA's all-time top 10 list
- After recording a career-best 46.10, Tim Korstanje bettered his 100 butterfly in the finals, going a 45.92 for the third-fastest time in program history
- Toni Dragoja's 200 freestyle prelim performance of 1:32.19 moved him to third all-time as Charlie Hawke, first with a career-best 1:30.44, and Kaique Alves, second with a career-best 1:32.19, now hold to top three times in Alabama history
- Lance Johnson recorded a career-best 3:47.04 in the 400 IM prelims, before topping the performance in the finals with a time of 3:46.82 to move to fourth all-time in program history
- Kate Christian's 400 IM prelim swim of 4:12.48 landed her at eighth all-time on the women's side
- Kailyn Winter secured the No. 5 spot on UA's all-time top-10 list for the women's 100 butterfly during the morning session with a 51.99
Next
- Friday's competition will feature the 200 butterfly, 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke and women's platform, in addition to the 400 medley relay during the finals session
- Prelims are set to begin at 8:30 a.m. CT while diving prelims will start at 10:30 a.m.
- Finals will start at 4:30 p.m.
