The Crimson Tide returns home for its annual Power of Pink match Sunday at Foster Auditorium
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Needing to win the fourth set to keep the match alive, Alabama volleyball made a late push but Mississippi State ultimately held on to win Friday's match in four sets by scores of 23-25, 25-19, 25-17 and 25-21.
Alabama (8-5, 0-3 SEC) opened the match with a hard-fought win in the opening set over Mississippi State (12-1, 2-1 SEC), with neither team able to take larger than a two-point lead in the 25-23 decision for the Crimson Tide. The Bulldogs found some early momentum in the second and were able to remain in front the rest of the way to win 25-19 and even the match at 1-1. The Bulldogs took set three by a similar score of 25-18 to take a 2-1 match lead. After dropping an early lead in the fourth set, Alabama would fight back to tie it at 12-12 and again later at 20-20, with Mississippi State taking its final timeout following the latter. Tied again two points later at 21-21, the Bulldogs shut the door with four straight points to win, 25-21, and take the match.
