Former Alabama players make an impact in Week 2 of the NFL season
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The National Football League concluded Week 2 of the regular season Monday evening. Below is a look at how former Alabama players performed on the gridiron last week.
A trio of former Crimson Tide running backs produced big days for their respective teams, led by Green Bay's Josh Jacobs. The first-year member of the Packers amassed 151 yards on 32 carries in a 16-10 win over the Indianapolis Colts. In Detroit, Jahmyr Gibbs turned in another impressive performance, accumulating 84 yards on 13 carries to go with seven receptions for 22 yards in the Lions' matchup with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Tuscaloosa native Brian Robinson Jr. carried the ball 17 times for 133 yards in the Washington Commanders' win over the New York Giants.
Wide receiver Calvin Ridley shined in Tennessee's matchup with the New York Jets. Ridley hauled in four receptions for 77 yards and a touchdown, while also contributing a rushing touchdown on a 10-yard carry in the first quarter in just his second game as a member of the Titans.
Rookie Will Reichard showed out in his home debut as the Minnesota Vikings knocked off the San Francisco 49ers, 23-17. The Hoover, Ala., native connected on all three of his field goal attempts and both of his PAT tries. Reichard's first attempt of his pro career, a 22-yarder in the first quarter, represented the first field goal by an Alabama kicker in the NFL since 1987.
A pair of Texans helped stifle the Chicago Bears' offense in primetime on Sunday Night Football. Henry To'oTo'o registered a career-high 13 tackles, including the first sack of his young career. Will Anderson Jr. was a menace in the Chicago backfield, posting four tackles, including 1.5 sacks and two tackles for loss, to go with a pair of quarterback hits in Houston's victory.
Back on American soil, Packers' defensive back Xavier McKinney picked up where he left off in Brazil. McKinney picked off his second pass in as many games while also contributing a pass breakup and four tackles, one of which went for a loss. Fellow defensive back Marlon Humphrey showed out in Baltimore's matchup with Las Vegas. The veteran corner notched 10 total tackles, including one for loss, to go with a pass deflection and an interception. Rounding out the defensive group was Patriots' linebacker Anfernee Jennings, who totaled seven tackles in New England's contest with the Seattle Seahawks.
