
Trio of SEC Weekly Honors Awarded to Cross Country Following Successful Southern Showcase

Individual title winners Victor Kiprop and Doris Lemngole were named the Men’s and Women’s SEC Runner of the Week, respectively, as Dennis Kipruto earned Men’s Freshman of the Week honors
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – After a successful season-opening and title-sweeping performance at the Southern Showcase, Alabama cross country racked up a trio of Southeastern Conference weekly awards, the league announced Tuesday. Following their individual title-claiming runs, Victor Kiprop and Doris Lemngole were named the SEC Men's and Women's Runner of the Week, respectively, as third-place finisher Dennis Kipruto secured his first SEC Men's Freshman of the Week honor.
Kiprop, Kipruto and Lemngole were three of five total Crimson Tide runners to record a top-five finish across both the men's 8k and women's 5k races. Around the league, both Kiprop (23:25.87, 8k) and Lemngole (16:03.85, 5k) clocked SEC-leading times in their respective races to further their successful showing in the season opener.
Victor Kiprop – Men's Runner of the Week
- Captured his first individual win of the season, in his first race of the season, to help propel the UA men to the team title
- His 23:25.87 time was the fastest of any 8k runner throughout the SEC over the weekend
- Was one of three Alabama runners to clock a top-four time in the men's 8k race
Doris Lemngole – Women's Runner of the Week
- Opened her sophomore season with a first-place finish to help secure Alabama the team-title sweep
- Her 16:03.85 time was the fastest of any 5k runner throughout the SEC over the weekend
- Paced Alabama to a 1-2 finish in the women's 5k race alongside teammate Pheline Mining
Dennis Kipruto – Men's Freshman of the Week
- Recorded a third-place finish in his cross country debut to help propel the UA men to the team title
- His 23:35.64 time was the second-fastest of any 8k runner throughout the SEC over the weekend
- Was one of three Alabama runners to finish in the top four of the men's 8k race
