NCAA East Prelims on Deck for Alabama

Crimson Tide student-athletes will look to punch their tickets to the NCAA Championships throughout the four-day, preliminary meet
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Alabama track and field program is set to compete at the NCAA East Preliminary Round, May 22-25, at Kentucky's Outdoor Track and Field Complex.
The NCAA East Preliminary Rounds are the first two rounds of the NCAA Championships, as the top 12 student-athletes in each event final, plus the top 12 from the West Preliminary Rounds, will advance to the semifinal and final rounds of the NCAA Championships, held June 5-8, in Eugene, Ore.
The men's team will compete Wednesday and Friday, while the women's competition will be held Thursday and Saturday. Preliminary action on the track for the men's and women's competitions will be Wednesday and Thursday, respectively.
The Crimson Tide will open the meet Wednesday morning (9 a.m. CT) in the men's hammer throw. The first preliminary track event for Alabama will be the men's 100-meter dash at 6:30 p.m.
Both Alabama programs will enter Lexington, Ky., nationally ranked in the top 20, with the men sitting at No. 5 and the women at No. 17.
NCAA East Preliminaries
- Ruben Banks will open the preliminary meet on Wednesday in the men's hammer throw at 9 a.m. CT, with the last event of the day featuring Victor Kiprop and Dennis Kipruto in the men's 10,000-meter run (8:10 p.m.)
- The men's program will compete in nine total events on the opening day of the NCAA preliminary meet
- The women are traveling 13 to Lexington, while the men's travel list is 20 strong
- Alabama enters the meet ranked in the top 25, nationally in the men's 400m (No. 1), the women's 10,000-meter run (No. 2), the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase 9No. 3), the women's 5,000-meter run (No. 9) and the men's 5,000-meter run (No. 23)
- Top-15 nationally ranked UA men's events include:
- Tarsis Orogot – No. 1, 200m and No. 9, 100m | Samuel Ogazi – No. 3, 400m | Khaleb McRae – No. 5, 400m | Chris Robinson – No. 1, 400m hurdles | Corde Long – No. 7, 400m hurdles | Victor Kiprop – No. 4, 5,000m and No. 7, 10,000m | Robinson, Ogazi, Long, McRae – No. 2, 4x400-meter relay
- Top-15 nationally ranked UA women's events include:
- Hilda Olemomoi – No. 1, 5,000m and No. 2, 10,000m | Doris Lemngole – No. 1, steeplechase and No. 10, 5,000m
Last Time Out
- The Crimson Tide won a total of 11 event medals at the Southeastern Conference Outdoor Championships (May 9-11) as the men's program finished second overall in the team standings and the women finished ninth
- On the men's side, Alabama tallied three gold medals, three silvers and two bronze finishes, while the women secured two golds and a silver
- Victor Kiprop became the first runner in SEC history to win three-straight 10,000-meter titles, simultaneously giving the Crimson Tide its seventh-consecutive gold medal in the event – the longest active streak for any event in the conference
- Doris Lemngole earned a share of the Women's Commissioner trophy, awarded to the student-athlete that accumulated the most points individually (18) throughout the conference meet (first in steeplechase, second in 5,000m)
