No. 19 Alabama Opens SEC Tournament against No. 24 South Carolina Thursday

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. –– The No. 19 Alabama men's tennis team (17-11, 6-6 SEC) opens the Southeastern Conference Tournament Thursday against No. 24 South Carolina (14-13, 4-8 SEC). The sixth-seeded Crimson Tide will face the 11th-seeded Gamecocks at 2 p.m. CT at the LSU Tennis Complex in Baton Rouge, La.

- Alabama will compete as the sixth seed in the SEC Tournament, its highest seeding since the Tide earned a fifth seed in 2009
- Nationally, Alabama ranks 19th after posting a pair of conference wins to close the regular season, including an upset victory over then-No. 11 Texas A&M
- A major contributor to the Tide's victories over the weekend against the Ole Miss Rebels and the 11th-ranked Aggies, Filip Planinsek garnered SEC Co-Player of the Week honors for winning both of his singles matches
- Planinsek defeated two ranked opponents in then-No. 22 Raphael Perot from Texas A&M and then-No. 50 Nikola Slavic from Ole Miss
- The performance moved Planinsek to 32nd nationally in the ITA singles rankings, while Enzo Aguiard secured a ranking of 110th and Andrii Zimnokh secured a ranking of 117th
- Two UA doubles pairings hold national rankings with Zach Foster and Aguiard holding the 38th spot nationally and Planinsek and Zimnokh ranking 51st
- Alabama and South Carolina met earlier in the season with the then-No. 16 Gamecocks edging the Tide in a 4-3 loss
- The match between the two schools saw five of the six singles courts battle through a set-tiebreaker
