INDIANAPOLIS – For the first time in program history, Alabama had two swimmers earn All-America honors in the men's 200 freestyle as Charlie Hawke tallied first-team accolades and Kaique Alves picked up second-team honors. The duo highlighted the third day of competition at the NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships as Hawke captured a fourth-place finish and Alves finished ninth.
Hawke posted a time of 1:30.58 to finish fourth in the event, tallying his third overall All-America honor at the meet and second first-team nod following a fifth-place finish in the 500 freestyle on Thursday. Hawke is the first Alabama swimmer to earn First Team All-America honors in the 200 freestyle since Jon Olsen in 1991. His time in the finals was three hundredths of a second shy of a career best, which he recorded as Wednesday's 800 freestyle relay leadoff swimmer (1:30.55).
Alves earned a Second Team All-America selection in the 200 freestyle. He used a career-best time of 1:31.68 to take the top time in the B finals and finish ninth overall. Alves also picked up second-team honors earlier in the week, swimming the 800 freestyle relay, alongside Hawke, on Wednesday.
Alabama concluded day three of the NCAA Championships in 17th place in the team standings with 50 points.
