
Alabama Earns All-America Honors on Final Day of NCAA Championships

The 400 freestyle relay team placed 14th overall to conclude the meet with Second Team All-America honors
INDIANAPOLIS – Alabama closed the NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships Saturday with its 400 freestyle relay team earning Second Team All-America honors.
Zarek Wilson, Charlie Hawke, Kaique Alves and Tim Korstanje combined for a time of 2:48.28 to earn Second Team All-America status with a 14th-place finish. It marked the 11th straight year that the Tide has earned All-America honors in the event, dating back to the 2014 national championships.
Overall, Alabama concluded the meet with 11 All-America honors from six swimmers. Hawke and Alves paced the Tide with Hawke picking up four honors, including first-team nods in the 200 and 500 freestyle, and Alves securing three, including a second-team selection in the 200 freestyle. Additionally, UA recorded second-team honors from Hawke, Alves, Tommy Hagar and Leonardo Alcantara in the 800 freestyle relay to finish the meet with two relay teams earning national recognition with the addition of Saturday's 400 freestyle relay.
For the 10th straight year, Alabama recorded a top-20 finish at the NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships (excluding the 2020 championships which was cancelled due to the COVID pandemic). The Tide tallied 56 points to place 19th in the team standings.
Meet Notes
- Alves captured a career-best 42.17 performance in the 100 freestyle to finish 30th overall
- He would drop 11 hundredths of a second off his prior best (42.28) from the Southeastern Conference Championships to rank him fifth all-time in program history, a spot he already held
- Two UA swimmers raced in the 200 backstroke as both Hagar and Jake Marcum competed in their second individual event at the meet
- Graduate student Marcum concluded his collegiate career with a time of 1:40.74 to place 22nd overall in the competition
- Freshman Hagar went 1:41.02 for a 24th-place finish
