
Alabama Heads to NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships

The Crimson Tide will have eight swimmers compete in the four-day competition in Indianapolis beginning Wednesday
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama will send eight swimmers to the NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships in Indianapolis as competition at the four-day meet begins Wednesday.
The Tide will have four individual swimmers compete in the competition with Kaique Alves, Charlie Hawke, Tommy Hagar and Jake Marcum securing a spot at the national meet. Additionally, Leonardo Alcantara, Bernardo Bondra de Almeida, Tim Korstanje and Zarek Wilson will compete as part of the Crimson Tide's relay contingent.

Meet Notes
- Hawke paces the team, entering the NCAA Championships ranked inside the top 10 in two events
- The UA junior holds the second-fastest swim in the 200 freestyle with a school record time of 1:30.75, which he earned as the leadoff swimmer in the 800 freestyle relay at the Southeastern Conference Championships
- Hawke also set the school record in the 500 freestyle (4:11.62) at the conference meet, shattering his previous best in the event by over a second, to place him ninth heading into the national championships
- Alves joins Hawke in the 200 freestyle, boasting a time of 1:13.97 to earn him a spot as the 11th-seeded swimmer
- He will also compete alongside Hawke in the 100 freestyle as Alves enters with a time of 42.28 and Hawke enters with a 42.31
- In his first year of collegiate competition, Hagar earned an invite in three individual events
- Highlighted by his 200 backstroke time of 1:40.20, Hagar ranks 24th overall and sixth among freshmen performers in the event
- Marcum will also race in the 200 backstroke, holding a time of 1:40.10 to enter at No. 23 in addition to earning a spot in the 100 backstroke
