School Record Performances Lead Alabama to All-America Honors at NCAA Championships

Charlie Hawke’s school record 200 freestyle swim paced the Crimson Tide to a UA record time in the 800 freestyle relay
INDIANAPOLIS – With the help of two school records, Alabama opened the NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships on Wednesday with All-America honors in the 800 freestyle relay.
Charlie Hawke, Kaique Alves, Tommy Hagar and Leonardo Alcantara bettered their school record performance from the SEC Championships, dropping over half a second to capture a program-best 6:10.72. The UA quartet finished 11th overall to earn Second Team All-America honors, marking the third straight year the Tide has received national recognition in the event.
In addition to the Tide's school record in the 800 freestyle relay, Hawke broke his own record in the 200 freestyle as the relay's leadoff swimmer. Hawke clocked a 1:30.55, dropping two tenths of a second off his prior best from the SEC Championships.
The Tide's performance in the 800 freestyle relay tallied 12 points to rank the Tide 14th in the team standings.

- Hawke will race in the 500 freestyle on Thursday
- Prelims will get underway at 9 a.m. CT, while finals will begin at 5 p.m.
